Byers
Judge James W. Byers, 53, 440 Roselawn Blvd., died unexpectedly Friday morning.
The son of the late James and Evelyn (Walsh) Byers was born in the Town of
Holland, Aug. 16,1926. He was a graduate of Kaukauna High School and following
World War 11 service in the U.S. Army, graduated from the University of
Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin Law School. He was admitted to the Bar
in August 1956 and practiced law in the firm of Byers and Brown which later
merged into Strehlow, Cranston, Byers and Brown. He was appointed county judge
by then Gov. Gaylord Nelson on Jan. 1, 1962 and had been re-elected three times.
He had served as president of the Wisconsin Board of Juvenile Court Judges and
of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. Judge Byers married
Nancy Marek on Feb. 7, 1954 in Racine.
Survivors are his wife; five sons, James, Mark and Mike, all at home, Steve,
Gonzaga University, Paul, UW-Oshkosh; one sister, Mrs. Earl (Mildred) Verheyden,
Crandon; two brothers, John, Askeaton, Robert, Green Bay. One sister, Ruth
Daniels, preceded him in death.
He will lie in state in the rotunda of the Brown County Courthouse from 1-9 p.m.
Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at
Resurrection Church with Msgr. James Feely officiating. Burial will be in Alluez
Cemetery. The sitting judges of Brown County, the appellate judges, and John
Reynolds and Robert Warren, both federal judges, will serve as honorary
pallbearers. Ryan Funeral Home, De Pere, is in charge of arrangements.
Vanderperren
Vincent Vanderperren, 74, Rt. 2, Pulaski, died Wednesday at a local nursing
home. He was born Aug. 6, 1905 in the town of Pittsfield.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Alvin (Betty) Kuske, Rt. 5, Green Bay; six
grand- children; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Cletus Vanderperren, Rt.
5, Green Bay; two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Van Hunter, Rt. 2, Pulaski, Mrs.
Rosalie Huberty, Green Bay. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara, in 1971
and by four brothers and one sister.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. today at Marnocha Funeral Home, Pulaski, with the
Rev. Dean Kilgust officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery,
Howard.
Kurth
Harry E. Kurth, 76, 1601 Mahon Ave., died Thursday evening at a local hospital.
The son of the late Henry and Mary Kurth was born in Pine Grove and married the
former Agnes Kaster on Oct. 6, 1934 in Green Bay. The
couple farmed in Pine Grove for many years and retired in 1969. Mr. Kurth was a
member of the Holy Name Society of Holy Trinity Church, Pine Grove.
Survivors are his wife, Agnes; five sons, Ervin, Rt. 1, Green Bay, Arnold, Rt.
3, Green Bay, Martin, Bellevue, Bernard, Maribel, Joseph, Two Rivers; four
daughters, Mrs. Donald (Caroline) Goessl, Mishicot, Sister Helen and Sister
Eileen, both of Green Bay, Mrs. Fred (Gertrude) Martin, Rt. 1, Den- mark; 24
grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Sally Kaster,
Esther Kurth and Laura Kurth, all of Green Bay, Mrs. George (Viola) Treml, De
Pere. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth, and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. today at Holy Trinity Church, Pine Grove. Burial
will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in leu of
flowers.
LeMay
Mrs. Mary E. LeMay, 89, 1450 S. Ohio St., Columbus, Ohio, died Thursday in
Columbus. The former Mary Rouer was born Aug. 7, 1890 in Stiles and lived in
Green Bay until 1965 when she moved to Columbus.
She is survived by three sons, Robert and Edward LeMay, both of Columbus, Ohio,
Dale LeMay, Green Bay; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Mildred) Kaster, Columbus,
Ohio, Mrs. William (Marcella) Babka, Green Bay; 12 grandchildren; 17
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in August
1954.
Friends may call at Schauer and Schumacher West Side Funeral Home after 2 p.m.
Sunday. A wake service will be held 8 p.m. Sunday. The funeral will be 10 a.m.
Monday at Annunciation Church with burial in Oconto Catholic Cemetery.
Thebo
Cynthia (Cindy) Gayle Thebo, 17, daughter of Mark and Ethel Thebo, 8613 Lynx
Road, San Diego, Calif., formerly of Green Bay, died Thursday morning at a
hospital in San Diego as the result of an automobile accident. Miss Thebo was a
senior at Madison High School, San Diego, and was employed by the local Sears
store.
Survivors are her parents; three brothers, Richard (Rick) Thebo, Green Bay,
Keith and Gary Rieber, both of San Diego; one sister, Mrs. Joe (Deanna) Call,
San Francisco.
A rosary will be held 7:30 p.m. Monday at Clairemont Mortuary, 4266 Mount
Abernathy Ave., San Diego, Calif. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the
Church of Good Shepherd, 8200 Gold Coast Drive, San Diego, with burial in the El
Camino Memorial Park in San Diego.
