These 13 added to the thirty-three names given in the former
list makes a total of forty-six veterans now residing in Schuyler
County and now residing in Schuyler Co. who saw service in their
country behalf over fifty years ago. At present there are enough often
to make quite a company of soldiers. It would be pleasant to see them once
more on parade; but whether we ever see them congregated in one assembly
or not, they deserve to be held in respectful regard by young and old.
The heroes of the war which witnessed our nations birth have all, or nearly
all, "passed that borne whence no traveler returns." And now these who
stood up for her defense when threatened by foreign hordes, are rapidly
falling into honored graves. Let them be honored in their
lives as well.
