At Wellsboro, C G. Guernsey was tried for endeavoring to poison his wife b giving her strychnine in wine. He was sentenced to prison at hard labor for four years and three month in solitary confinement. This was too light a sentence if he was guilty.
Lyman Evans a law student to Henry A Clark of Bainbridge
stole sixteen thousand dollars in bonds from him and was arrested in Albany.

George Seymour of this village fell from the trestlework
at Watkins last Sat. and was badly injured. He was to work his passage
on the Morris Run co. train and as it was backing up on the trestle he
lost his balance and fell to the ground, some 20 feet, he was brought here
to his fathers on the train.
On Monday afternoon last a, four year old boy, Sammie Remmick by name fell over backwards, head first into the barrel sunk as a cistern near a dwelling in the rear of the Advertiser office. The little fellow was covered with water, and came near drowning but was rescued by the timely arrival of his grandmother. Dansville Advertiser.

The heirs of decease soldiers are cautioned against selling
out their claims against the government to traveling speculators. Such
persons are said to be about in this part of the state, inducing ignorant
persons to sell out for the ernerest trifle claimed of indefinite amount,
and thereby it may be depriving poor and needy families of considerable
sums of money. If any persons have already been imposed upon let them immediately
send on protest to the second auditor of the treasury against the allowing
such claims to these speculators.

As the passenger train of cars from Rochester was approaching
Corning on Sat. evening, it was stoned by a party of unknown villian and
several windows were broken. We believe no passengers were seriously hurt,
although there were several very narrow escapes and much excitement prevailed.
This is by no means the fist occurrence of this kind of that locality,
and it is time the proper authorities should break up this gang of outlaws
and thus have their property from destruction and their pass4engers from
injury to life and limb. Elmira Advertiser.

A son of Simon Vreeland of Cube was badly burned. He
was carrying a can of burning fluid in one hand and a lighted lamp in the
other and spilled some fluid on his clothes from the can they took fire.
Ed Clarks’ store at Niles was burnt by the explosion of
a kerosene lamp.

Quite a destructive fire occurred at Himrod Corners yates
Co, May 1st. The dwelling and store of Col C C Post were totally consumed.
Information wanted- Wm H Abby who left Corning NY about
four years ago and when last and when last heard from was in Texas. Any
information of his whereabouts will be thankfully received by his wife

ONe evening last week at Painted Post and intoxicated
man was ordered out of a grocery store. As he left he turned and struck
his head through the glass window of the door and cut his head and neck
so badly that a surgeon was called. It is a wonde rhe did not sever the
bloodvessels of the neck.

Joseph H Gilbert of this town has a mare which has rasided
eith valuable colts in the last 8 yrs. sylvester gollett lost and excellent
cow recently by eathre the after growth of clover.
Nelson F Wells of the boot and shoe firm of Wells and Mead, Elmira obscounded nd was arrested in St. Louis. It is said that he took wiht him a large sum of money. He is now in charge of Sheriff Post at Elmira.
At Binghamton last thrusday morning Elys store house and M T Morgans store house were burned Loses heavy but partially insured. the armory was in Morgans building and $7,000 worth of Stte property was lost.

Some weeks ago an accident occured to Myron W. Robbins
living near the border of Caton and Corning by which his right leg
was badly broken. We didn no learn of it till last week. He was cutting
up a tree on a side hill when one log slid and carried him along with it
tillit met an obstruction and the result was a compound faracture of one
of his legs. Dr. may of Corning adjusted the fractured bones nd is attending
to the case.

On the night of hte Democratic Mass Meeting at Watkins, Albert Ellis's house was robbed of all the silverware in the afsence of the family, who were looking at the parade.

Sat. morning an accident occured at a saw mill in
conklin, Broome County, by which a man named Benjamin Lawrence lost an
arm and leg. Mr. Lawrence tending the mill, and while adjusting somthing
about the machinery in the vicinity of the circular saw, his coat came
in contact wiht the later and instantly he was drawn in front of and before
he had time to cry for help his right arem and right leg were totally severed
from his body and a sever wound inflicted in his right side by the teeth
of the saw.
