The above girls names: Add Middle name of Bell told to me by my grandmother. She siad she that they often gigled at the names and they'd say, Flossie Bell, Strawdy Bell, Alice Bell, Ester Bell, Viola Bell. :) Maybe there's a BELL Surname in the family. I'll look into it. I've often thought that perhaps once Ross died, there were no more Carmody's on this side to carry on the name so perhaps that's where the Bell name comes in.

2. James W.CARMDODY b. Dec 1881 KY
......+ Mary ____ moved to Sikeston, MO per my grandmother

Notes about James/Jim/Jimmy Carmody: When he and Mary moved to Sikeston, he opened up the first Barber Shop in Sikeston. It was called Carmody Barber Shop. The Shop was located one block across the park from the Malone Theatre. Jim had other Carmody's come in and work at the Barber shop with him.

Tree to come soon

I am trying to find out anything that I can on Big Opening If you can add anything please let me know, :)

add about dances

About Big Opening Township: The Big Opening community had a population of about 700 in its heydeys.
It was located along County Road AA in northern rural New Madrid County.
There are houses still there but not the thriving community it once was. The York school building is still there, but it is a private residence now. To get to Big Opening, you can drive north on Interstate 55 to the Missouri exit for Matthews and East Prairie. This is about 65 miles north of the Arkansas border. Get off here and turn right (east) on Highway 80. About 1 1/2 miles from the interstate, you turn left (north) on AA Highway. When you reach the second grain silo on the left, you are in Big Opening.

Big Opening
Little Vine Cemetery

The list of marked graves I have was put together in the early 1980s by the ladies from the local abstract office. Here are the names I found for you:
George Washington Carmody first wife:
Jennie L. Carmody, April 17, 1888-June 23, 190?, Wife of G.W. Carmody.
First wife, she died and he married again --Grandma Gracie was 2nd wife.
J.L. Carmody, Nov. 16, 1906-Nov. 29, 19?, daughter of G.W. and J.L. Carmody.
J.M. Carmody, June 31, 1908-July 24, 1908, son of G.W. and J.L. Carmody.

Richard aka Dick, + his sons= Lee & Ed worked in barber shop, he is the older
Bud was youngest.
