The Old Veterans of the 14th and 22nd Kentucky Regiments Meet and Have a Jolly Reunion - September 23 & 24, 1884

A few weeks since a call was made for a reunion of the surviving members of the late Fourteenth and Twenty-second Kentucky Regiments, U.S. Vol. Inft., to be held at Ashland Park, the 23d and 24th inst. The call also cordially invited all ex-Federal soldiers of the other regiments, and the boys who wore the grey to be present.

This meeting was regarded merely as a move to organize for future meetings and on this account many of the old veterans failed to put in an appearance. However, there were more of them present than expected, on so short notice, and the number of citizens that came to greet them was far in excess of the anticipation of any.

At 11 o'clock on Tuesday , the 23d, the veterans were called together by Captain John Paul Jones, and General D. W. Lindsey, of Frankfort, Ky., formerly Colonel of the Twenty-second Regiment, was elected Chairman, who, upon taking the chair, delivered a short and appropriate address. Captain George Corum was elected Secretary. The chair appointed the following committee on permanent organization: Col. J. W. Northup, Captain W. W. Culbertson, Captain T. D. Marcum, Captain D. W. Steele, Colonel T. J. Ewing, Major D. J. Burchett, and Captain S. F. Nethercutt, and the meeting took a recess until 2 o'clock p.m., and when called to order the committee made the following report, which was unanimously adopted:

1, That we be known as the North Eastern Kentucky Volunteer Association.

The old Field Band of the Fourteenth Kentucky Regiment and the Ashland Brass Band furnished some excellent music. The attendance of citizens was large both days, the number Wednesday being estimated at 5,000. We hope the attendance of old soldiers next year will include all in North East Kentucky that are not providentally prevented from coming and our comrades from Ohio and W. Va. are cordially invited, and the warmest invitation is extended to the veterans who wore the grey to come and exchange with us camp and campaign stories.
