He married KATHERINE ZIMMERMAN July 06, 1859 in Emanuel Catholic Church: Dayton, Ohio, daughter of HENRY ZIMMERMAN. She was born May 07, 1838 in Germany, and died May 18, 1929 in Phillipsburg, Montgomery County, Ohio.

Notes for CORPORAL JOHN HOCK:

according to pension application papers, John Hock enlisted as Corporal on the 26th day of September, 1861 at Camp Corwin in Co. B 1st Regiment of Ohio. under command of Captain Coleman

He was wounded (gun shot in left ankle) at Dog Walk Kentucky October 9, 1862

His disability was wound of left anke, ball remains, defective eyesight, heart disease and rheumatism, erysepelira? and blood poison.

According to the 1900 Montgomery County; Ohio census E.D. #34 pg 8, line 55 he was a cooper by trade.

(barrel maker) He owned free of mortgage his home and could read and write. He lived in Clay Township.

Naturalized October 6, 1858 in Montgomery County, Ohio. Naturalization papers list him as John HOKE a native of Bavaria

Notes for KATHERINE ZIMMERMAN:

according to the 1900 Montgomery County, Ohio census, Katherine was the mother of 11 children of whom 7 were living in 1900.

An Andrew Zimmerman signed an affidavit for Katherine on widow's pension application in 1915. He was 75 years old at the time. I believe that he may have been Katherine's brother.

Notes for DOLORES EILEEN HOCK Dolores was a homemaker, and an excellent one at that. She wrote poetry, mostly spiritual, as did her paternal grandfather. This trait was passed down to her granddaughter, Natalie.

Dolores had dark brown hair, brown eyes.

Notes for JESSE FREMONT, JR.:

Jesse Fremont, Jr., as a child, had a job at a local bowling alley. His job was manually setting the up the pins for a nickel a game. As an adult, he worked as a carpenter and a welder/fitter at an oil refinery (Amoco Oil). He also worked as a refinery operator and instrument/electrician at Amoco Oil in Texas City, Texas.

As a very small child, Jesse had rheumatic fever. He died at the age of 59 of a massive heart attack.

Marriage Notes for DOLORES HOCK and WILBUR MCAFEE:

Dolores was engaged to "Bill" before she made her first trip to Texas. While in Texas she fell in love with Jesse Fremont. Bill was anxiously awaiting her return to Ohio. Dolores "Lori" wrote Bill a letter telling him that she wasn't going to return to Ohio and broke off their engagement. Bill took a train to Texas to convince Lori to go back to Ohio with him. She refused and Bill returned home empty handed and broken hearted. Neither one of them dreamed that 45 years later they would be married to one another. Bill had married before and had 4 children. His oldest 3 children were close to the same age as Lori's children. His wife had died, leaving him a widower. Jesse had died in 1981.
