First record of John Windle Kite is in Augusta County, Virginia in a court appearance dated 19 June 1747 where he was fined for swearing in the presence of the Court.

On 10 February 1748, at Richmond, King George II for 35 shillings deeded John Windle Kite 316 acres of the north side of the South Fork of the Shenandoah River.

Catherine Dofflemyer was born about 1791. She died in Terre Haute, Champaign Co., OH. ! Birth date was estimated, figuring she may have been about 20 at

the time of marriage to Michael Kite in 1811 (20 was the average age

of a woman to marry at that time). Died after the birth of son

George Kite b. 1822, and before the 1830 census.

The following information provided by Carl Rhodes

Sarah Kite was born in 1811 in Rockingham Co., VA. She died on 3 Dec 1874 in Argos, Marshall Co., IN. After the death of Joseph, Sarah worked as a housekeeper. She also

sold off lots in the town of Argos, which were left to her by late

husbands estate. The last land record found on Sarah (Kite) Rhodes was

on 17 Nov 1873, when she sold land in the town of Argos (recorded in

Deed Book 8 pg. 395 in the Marshall Co. Courthouse at Plymouth IN).

Her remaining property was later seized by the county sheriff and sold

for delinquent taxes.

OBITUARY: from a news paper, The Bourbon Mirror, (Bourbon, Marshall

Co. IN) Dec. 10 1874 "From Argos ---- Died of brain fever, on 3d

inst., the widow of Joseph Rhoads. She was a consistent member of the

Chistian church, and leaves a large circle of relatives and friend to

mourn her loss".: From a news paper, the Marshall County Republican,

(Plymouth, Marshall Co., Ind.) Dec. 10 1874 "Argos Items ---- Died, on

3d inst., Mrs Rhodes, aged 63 years"

Notes for JOSEPH H. RHODES:

The following information provided by Carl Rhodes

Joseph H. Rhodes was born on 11 May 1810 in Urbana, Champaign Co., OH. He died on 18 Oct 1861 in Argos, Marshall Co., IN. He was buried in Argos, Marshall Co., IN. Joseph and Sarah (Kite) Rhodes family moved from Urbana in Champaign

Co. Ohio to Hamilton Co. IN, in about 1835, along with Sarah's father

Michael Kite. In the following year they relocated to Boone Co. near

the village of Thorntown, IN. Eight out of the eleven known children

of Joseph and Sarah were born there. On March 5, 1852 Joseph H.

(Rodes) purchased a farm in Marshall Co., IN, for $1,100.00 (Marshall

Co. Deed Book H, pg. 509). November of that year he bought swamp land

from the state of Indiana at a $1.25 per acre. In present day Walnut

Twp. of Marshall Co., IN, Joseph laid out the village of Fremont, on

Nov. 6 1856. He named it in honor of Col. John C. Fremont who was

voted that day as the Republican candidate for President. Joseph laid

the village of Fremont out along side the community of Sidney. The

following year Joseph opened a small grocery store. In 1859 Joseph,

along with seventeen others voted to join the two communities of

Fremont and Sidney into the town of Argos. :Plymouth Pilot-News,

Jason D. Rhodes was born on 3 May 1834 in Urbana, Champaign Co., OH. He died on 7 Jul 1909 in Kokomo, Howard Co., IN. He was buried in Crown Point Cem., Kokomo, Howard Co., IN. Served in the Civil War in Company F of the 89 Regiment of Indiana

Volunteers. He enlisted at Howard Co., IN, Aug 15, 1862, his military

recorded states he was at the age of 26 at time of enlistment. His

discharge said he had gray eyes, light hair, dark complexion, was

farmer by trade and was born in OH. He was Mustered out of service at

Mobile Ala. July 19 1865 (information from the Indiana State Archives).

Notes for JESSE FREMONT, SR. RHODES:

Jesse Fremont Rhodes left Kokomo Indiana in about 1917 and dropped his last name Rhodes and was thereafter known as Jesse Fremont. When his eldest son, Jesse, was born he was known as Jesse, Sr. and his son as Jesse, Jr. Jesse, Jr. also had a son named Jesse whose middle name was Bryan, and two other sons, David Jennings and Paul Glen.

Notes for HELEN JEANNETTE MIDDLETON:

On April 21, 1908, Helen and her brother and sister were taken by their mother to the Lasker Home for children in Galveston, Texas. Their mother told them to get into Frank's little farm wagon and she walked them to the orphanage.

Helen remembered the 1900 storm that hit Galveston Texas. They lived in the Hindley building on the second floor. She recalled the sound of wooden crates knocking on the ceiling of the first floor below them.

Notes for JESSE FREMONT, JR.:

Jesse Fremont, Jr., as a child, had a job at a local bowling alley. His job was manually setting the up the pins for a nickel a game. As an adult, he worked as a carpenter and a welder/fitter at an oil refinery (Amoco Oil). He also worked as a refinery operator and instrument/electrician at Amoco Oil in Texas City, Texas.
