William Uttley

William Uttley

William Uttley was born in Hartlepool, in 1891, the son of Thomas Uttley and Hannah Sedgwick.

William was about 8 years old, when the family moved from Hartlepool to Loughborough.

He married Amy Abbott in 1915, in Loughborough. He inherited his father's milk round and was famous for his horse drawn milk cart. He used to enjoy a drink while he did the rounds and it was often the horse who found their way home.

It is thought that Will eventually lost the milk round through drinking. One lunch time, Will was coming home from the pub on his bicycle and was run over and killed. He died on the steps of the Royal George Inn in The Conneries.
