Contact.  Transcribed by Kevin BROWN Checked by Val HENDERSON      HARFORD is a village and parish in Plympton St. Mary union, containing by the census of 1861, 158 inhabitants, and 2050 acres; in the deanery Plympton, archdeaconry of Totnes, diocese of Exeter, hundred of Ermington, South Devonshire; 2½ miles north-east from Ivybridge, 13 east from Plymouth, and 14 south-east from Tavistock, on the river Erme, and on the southern extremity of Dartmoor Forest, the bold Tors of which, and the romantic scenery of the Erme Valley, attract numerous visitors in the summer season. The Rectory, in the incumbency of the Rev. Henry Wyatt Cottle, B.A., had the tithes commuted in 1838, at £180 per annum, and has residence and 48 acres of glebe land, and is in the alternative patronage of Lady Rogers and Richard Julian, Esq. The church is a small ancient edifice, consisting of nave, chancel, and aisle, with an embattled tower containing three bells. The Independents have a place of worship here. Henry B.
