Contact.   Transcribed by Peter RUTHERFORD Checked by Val HENDERSON Pages 859 - 860   RINGMORE is a village and parish in the Kingsbridge union, containing, by the census of 1861, 271 inhabitants, and 1128 acres; in the deanery of Woodleigh, archdeaconry of Totnes, diocese of Exeter, hundred of Ermington, South Devonshire; 4 miles south from Modbury, on the sea coast, overlooking Bigbury Bay, the scenery along the coast being very beautiful and varied. The rectory, with the chapelry of Okenbury attached, in the incumbency and patronage of the Rev. Francis Charles Hingeston-Randolph, M.A., domestic chaplain to Viscountess Falmouth Baroness Le Despencen, had the tithes commuted at £235 per annum, and has residence and 101 acres of glebe land. The church is an ancient edifice, dedicated to All Saints, chiefly of the architecture of the 13th century, except the north transept, which is of Early Norman or Saxon; the whole was restored in 1864. There is a school for children of both sexes, and the Baptists have a place of worship here. There is a Coast Guard Station at Challacombe, also a seine for catching mackerel and pilchards.
