Can Digital Camera Images Replace the Copy Machine and Scanner?

You Be the Judge

These photos were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 950 digital camera. I set it on B/W, since color wasn't important. The flash must be turned off. It's important that the room lights be dim or off, as you can see by these examples Lights on, and Lights off.

I got a nice image of the Baltimore MD 1875 City Directory Title Page and the page my Disneys are on. Focussing was a problem -- here's a fuzzy one with a few more entries. (sigh) It's important to focus the film reader, too, as this Title page shows. The better the quality of the film, the better the image. Just as a lark, I tried to photograph the screen of the film copy machine screen, unsuccessfully.

Those jpegs are just as they came from the camera. If I were going to use them, they would be cropped, adjusted, and reduced. So they are large, and may be slow to download, depending on your online connection.
