Last Will and Testament of Alexander J. Van Eps (1770-1847)

I, Alexander J. Van Eps, of the Town of Glenville in the County of Schenectady being advanced in life but of sound disposing mind do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form of following.

First of all, I give and bequeath unto my wife Esther five hundred dollars in two years after my death and his household furniture that she brought here. I give her the use of my north room for one year after my death and one year provisions and firewood.

I give unto my daughter Nelly (Van Eps Vedder) five hundred dollars and half my household furniture in two years of my death.

I give unto Clarissa Ann Bovee five hundred dollars and half my household furniture in two years of my death.

The rest of my property which is left after the above mentioned funds are paid and my last debts and funeral charges are paid and satisfied, I five an equal portion of what is left unto John L. Van Eps' six sons and Jacob J. Bovee's two sons in two years of my death.

And lastly, I hereby nominate, constitute and assign John P. Ostrander and J. Chamberlain sole executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all others by me heretofore made.

In witness I have here unto set my hand and seal this the 19 day of June eighteen hundred and forty seven. Signed, sealed, published and declared by the testator to be his last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names of witness in the presence of the testator as well as in the presence of each other.

To the People of the State of New York-

To all persons interested in the Estate of Alexander J. Van Eps, deceased, late of the Town of Glenville and county of Schenectady, and particularly to:

John Vedder, Nelly Vedder, Esther Van Eps, Lawrence Van Eps, William H. Van Eps, James L. Van Eps (John L. Van Eps ?) and Charles Van Eps of the said Town of Glenville. Jacob J. Bovee, special guardian of Clarissa Maria Burrell of Columbia, Herkimer County and of Alexander Bovee, infant, of Glenville. Alexander and Albert Van Eps of Charlton, Saratoga County. Margins Bovee on Mohawk, Herkimer County and Alonzo Burrell also of Columbia, Herkimer County.

On the application of John P. Ostrander and John S. Chamberlain, Executors, of said deceased, to render a final account of all their proceedings; you and each of you are hereby cited to appear before our County Judge of our county of Schenectady, at the Surrogate's office, in the city of Schenectady, on the fourth day of May at ten o'clock in the forenoon, to attend the final settlement of the accounts of said Executors.
