Notes for Johannis Van Tassel - The will of Johannis, dated December 23, 1771, was offered for probate January 23, 1785 and recorded in Liber 37, of Wills page 378 New York Surrogate's office. It mentions his wife Tryntje; sons Peter and Jacob; [See Peter's Revolutionary War sacrifices and Washington Irving's account of the bravery of Major Jacob of Wolfert's Roost in the "VTs in the Revolution" section.] daughters Rachel, wife of John Van Tassel, Catharine wife of Abraham Ecker, son of Abraham, and Anna widow of Jacob Van Wormer; Alty and Catharine children of his eldest son John, deceased. He refers in his will to property at Cross or Crop Meadow then in litigation, and directs how it shall be divided if recovered.

Notes for Hendrick Van Tassel - The will of Hendrick is dated March 1, 1771, and recorded in Liber 27 of Wills page 523 New York County Surrogate's office. It mentions his wife, his sons John and Hendrick, daughter Mary and granddaughter Balithy Stymes; also speaks of "an estate depending upon Long Island, of some land now in dispute of the law. If in case it should prove successful then it is to be equally divided" etc.
