This 19th-century mansion overlooks downtown Springfield, with views of Main Street, the rapids on the Black River, and the locations of early industries. It is now a museum and gallery with exhibits of primitive portraits by 19th-century artists including Horace Bundy, Asahel Powers, and Aaron Dean Fletcher; pewter; Bennington pottery; and Joel Ellis dolls and toys made in local factories. Three rooms also display work by local artists. There are changing exhibits and educational programs for adults and children. Contact Person: Bob McLaughlin, Director. Hours and Admission: early May to mid-Oct, Tues– Fri, 10am – 4pm; Sat, 2 – 5pm. Free. The ground floor is accessible to the disabled.
