General Notes (Husband)
1930 census - Harry B McKinstry was a mail carrier for the Government. In 1920 he was a clerk for the Post Office.
Josephine Ann (Jo Ann) was not counted in the family on the 1930 census.
In 1920, Percy Maxwell, brother of Vida Maxwell, lived next door to them.
On an earlier version I had a second wife for Philip named Bennett, and his son, Russell, told me there was not a second marriage. His mother's middle name was Bennett, and on one of my family group sheets, the name was written in such a way that it looked like the name of a second wife.
General Notes (Wife)
Her family is confirmed by finding her exact birth date, 14 Dec 1889, on the record for her family in the 1901 census, for St. George, Charlotte, New Brunswick. This matches the date and place family records give for her. On all census records both in Canada and Massachusetts, she is listed as Vida.
Her brother Percy lived next door to Harrison and Vida McKinstry in 1920, and this is the only record I can find of any of the family in this country. He was not there in 1910 nor in 1930. It is not clear if Harrison married the girl next door, or if her brother came to live next door on account of her relationship with the McKinstry family. Her husband was listed as a farmer. All of his kin in New Brunswick were farmers. That he should have migrated to rural southern Massachusetts in order to farm doesn't add up. Nor does the more likely guess that he migrated in search of work having failed to inherit sufficient land from his large family. Tehre were enough textile mills in Canada. Russ McKinstry says they don't know alot about Vida and her family.
Notes (Marriage)
I also have this marriage having occurred in Oxford, Massachusetts. Russ McKinstry's family group sheets say it was in New Brunswick, in the location where her family actually lived.

General Notes (Husband)
He was of a large clan who all lived in St George, New Brunswick, found on p 3, L-3.
Not possible to tell how the families were related, particularly since tehre were more of them in 1881 than in 1901. It appears as if John's father was one of a group of brothers or other closely related kin of a single generation, who were born in Ireland. They were Calvinist Presbyterians in 1881. Conceivably that distinguishes them from English/ Irish Presbyterians, who were Universalists. Clearly they were Scotch-Irish. My own ancestors Samuel Cauthers and Jane Bane/ Cabane/ McBane were of the same wave of migration, and they were a generation later than my emigrant ancestor John Smith. They were farmers.
Vida, as she was called on most census records, appears to have for some reason which is so far a mystery, moved to Southbridge, Massachusetts, all the way from nothern Canada, in order to farm in Southbridge. The 1920 census shows him a farmer, with land next door to that of Harrison and Vida McKinstry. He did not live next door to the McKinstry's or anywhere else in 1910, or in 1930. None of the rest of the family can be found in the U.S. at all. It is not clear if he came to live there before or after his sister married the boy next door.
John had once wandered; he was not living with his family in the 1881 census, when he would have been about 22; though he did live there with his family in the 1901 census.
The probably brothers who were born in Ireland were:
Andrew J. Maxwell, b May 1, 1825, Living in 1901 wife Mary J. b abt 1834 also in Ireland
William Maxwell b 3 Jan 1812 (about 1814 calculated from reported age on 1881 census Living in 1901 m Nancy, b 1827, Ireland, not there in 1901.
James Maxwell b about 1812; Living in 1881 m Rebecca b 1809 Ireland, living in 1881.
Robert Maxwell b 1818 Living in 1881 wife Ellen b 1826 Ireland, living in 1881.
John Maxwell b about 1821 Living in 1881 m Jane b abt 1824 also in Ireland
General Notes (Wife)
Her name is also on the same and the 1881 census, spelled Monahany and Monehan. On her son's late registration of birth, which may have been created from the census, her name is given as Maggie Amelia Monahany. Where would an Irish girl who couldn't spell her name, adn whose father couldn't spell his name, get a name like Amelia?
General Notes for Child Davida (Vida) Bennett MAXWELL

Russ McKinstry says they don't know alot about Vida and her family.
