General Notes (Husband)
Samuel Winch was of Sudbury in 1670, when he bought 8 acres of land from Samuel How at Lanham after King Phillips War, and in 1671, when he occupied land in the South Bounds. A few years later he settled in Framingham (though it was not incorporated until 1700?), and was an original member of the Framingham Church. Elizabeth Winch, spinster of Great Alhallows, London, in her will, made 1659, calls herself "bound for Virgina" and names brothers Richard and John. Much speculative genealogy has been based on this. "It is thought that John may have been teh father of Samuel of Framingham, Mass. Virginia was often used to mean America". My information is from Rootsweb Worldconnect; crews-james and Anderson-Larson databases. Information on Samuel Winch is fairly standard and there is not much of it. The little that is cited on him was taken from several town histories in various New England locations. Only one database actually ventured to give him a father - John Winch. Not everyone lists both wives and children of both.
