1 F Hannah TAYLOR
Born: 25 Jan 1817 - Edenfield, Lancashire, England Christened: Died: 1890 - Southbridge, Massachusetts Buried:Spouse: Nathan McKINSTRY (1819-1889) Marr: 8 Aug 1842 - prob Sturbridge, Massachusetts
General Notes (Husband)
This set of parents comes from Russ McKinstry's data. The mother's name is similar enough to one of Hugh's wives from the IGI that I wonder if Robert and Hugh could be the same person.
Supporting the idea that her father was Jude, is that Jude Taylor is found in Southbridge in the 1840 census. Three Robert Taylor's were in Massachusetts; none of them anywhere near Southbridge. Closest one was an elderly man with one adult male with him in Middlesex County.
General Notes for Child Hannah TAYLOR
I researched in familysearch.org (International Genealogical Index), and federal censuses.
In 1850, Nathan McKinstry, his wife, and his children born before 1850 were vacationing on the other planet. None of them can be found in the U.S. He is missing from Southbridge along with most other McKinstry's who were living there by 1860.
In 1860 about four of them are lined up on a page, presumably on adjacent farms along a road.
In the 1840 census Jude Taylor is found living in Southbridge.
1 male 5-10, 1 male 10-16, 1 male 60-70, 1 female 16-20, 2 females 20-30, 1 female 60-70.
A. P. Taylor, who in a later census turns out to be Avery P. TAylor, manufacturer, b Massachusetts, and David TAylor also lived in Sturbridge and Southbridge in 1840. Only Avery lived there of the three by 1850.
In 1830 Jude Taylor is not in the U.S.
In 1850 Jude Taylor b about 1776, a laborer, and Jude Taylor, 28, b abt 1822 in England, engraver, with wife Amey b RI, as well as I can read it (could be Annie), and Alice L. Taylor age 2 born Massachusetts. All living in Pawtucket, Bristol, RI.
In 1880 Jude Taylor age 56, b abt 1824, manufacturer of hair cloth, wife Annie F, age 52, Catherine, 29, Emma F. 20, living in Pawtucket, Bristol, RI.
In 1860, Jude Taylor of North Providence, RI, engraver, b England, about 39, b abt 1821. Wife Amy, 32, children Kathleen, 9, b MA, and Emma, 2. , b RI.
In no year from 1830 through 1860 do any Jude Taylor's appear in the U.S. but these two.
Maybe 50 Hannah Taylor's were born or christened in Lancashire in 1817; but only exactly one HAnnah Taylor was born to a Jude Taylor, who also had a son named Jude, and there was exactly one Jude Taylor in Lancashire in his time. There may have been two or three Jude Taylor's in all of England, atleast in the IGI.
IGI: Children of Jude Taylor and Betty, born and christened in Lancashire.
Hannah b 24 Jan 1815, christened 12 Apr 1815, Haslingden, Lancashire. From submission by LDS member only; no extracted local record for her. Birth date I have is 25 Jan 1817, Edenfield.
Jude b 17 Mar 1819, christened 5 May 1819, Haslingden, Lancashire. From submission by LDS member; no extracted local record for him.
The rest all come from extractions by LDS of local records, and some were also submitted by an LDS member from his or her own records or research for temple sealing.
John b 27 May 1801, chr 28 Jun 1801, Edenfield, Lancashire.
Alice b 23 Nov 1802, chr 12 Dec 1802, Edenfield, Lancashire.
Anne b 21 Jan 1804, chr 26 Feb 1804, Bury, Lancashire, England
John b 04 Sep 1805, chr 22 Sep 1805, Edenfield.
James, b 29 May 1807, chr 15 Jul 1807, Redvales, Lanchashire, which is now part of Manchester; christened Bury, Lancashire.
Mary b 16 Jul 1808 Redvales, christened 1 Mar 1809 Bury, Lancashire.
Ann b 15 May 1810 chr 08 Jul 1810 St. Mary, Bury, Lancashire.
Robert b 15 May 1810, chir 08 Jul 1810 St. Mary, Bury, Lancashire.
Ellen b 09 Nov 1812, chr 19 Jan 1813, Union St. Wesleyan Methodsist, Rochdale, Lancashire, England.
The 1840 census makes it appear that there were several later children we don't know about. They did not live with their father by 1850.
From Mapquest, these places are all within 12 miles of each other. Manchester, Bury and Rochdale are sizable places located near Haslingden and Edenfield, which are about two miles apart.
For the marriages of Jude Taylor and Betty, we have a mixed bag.
A member of LDS submitted the information that Jude Taylor married Betty Crook on Jan 1, 1801, at Bury, Lancashire, England. This marriage (and also the christenings of the last two children) could have taken place at some nonconformist church without official recognition in England at that time.
From an extracted local record comes the information that Jude Taylor married Betty Robinson 12 Jun 1813 Middleton by Oldham, Lancashire, which was within the town of Bury. This marriage is too late for this Betty to be the mother of most of Jude's children. He could conceivably have married two women named Betty. I proceed here on the assumption that that happened. In fact, that would help explain the change in pattern in timing of births between the ages of the children born between 1801 and 1812, and those born in 1815 and 1819.
No official record of Jude Sr's birth or christening is recorded in IGI, though there are submissions from LDS members of various guesses on who his parents were.
The name Jude, which is not at all a common name combined with Taylor anywhere in the world, appears a couple of dozen times in Lancashire from 1600 through the 18th century, and in two other English counties as well.
