General Notes (Husband)
He is found with his family in the 1920 census in Southbridge. He is found in his father's household in the 1880 census. He is supposed (according to Russ McKinstry) to have bene in Calgary, Alberta CAnada for the birth of three of his daughters (and evidently before that in Columbus, Ohio), because he had gone there to look for work. He was an optician/ optical grinder at American Optical in Southbridge, which was one of the largest employers in teh area. Its plant is now some sort of government accounting center. It is and was an international company, and someone suggested to me that possibly he went to those other places in connection with his job with AMerican Optical. Someone else suggested he could have tried to take the Canadian government up on an offer of free and easy to obtain land in Alberta. His WWI draft card (image at ancestry.com) says he was living in Calgary, Alberta, and working for Consolidated Optical as an optician.
In 1910 Henry Bastien, the father of his wife Diana who he married in 1907 (according to the Massachusetts marriage index), was living in Southbridge, his family nowhere to be found. The marriage record is 1907 vol 572 p 423. In 1920 Henry Bastien and all of his family lived next door to Peter Reno with his wife Diana and most of his children.
The family were evidently Roman Catholic, as every single child of this couple I have obits for was Catholc. All those Reno's who I have obits for who belong to the wider Reno/ Renaud clan in Southbridge were also Catholics.
1990 census says he was born in April 1879. This is consistent with his age of 1 year old on the 1880 census.
The townships his father and Diana were born in are suspiciously near each other.
On the 1920 census, they lived at 15 Hamilton Street.
General Notes (Wife)
Diana's father, Henry, lived next door to the Reno family in Southbridge with his family in 1920. IN 1910, he lived in Southbridge, but his family does not turn up in the census tehre, nor anywhere else. The 1920 census shows that they emigrated to the United STates in 1902, except for a probably older son of Henry, George, who emigrated in 1901; and several family members had been naturalized in Pennsylvania.
Diana is found in her father HEnry's household, mother Philomene, which also agrees with info on the 1920 census, on the 1901 Canadian census, in Saint-Germain-de-Grantham, Drummond & Arthabastia or Arthabasha, Quebec.
Her name is often spelled Dianna.
General Notes for Child Lucille Marie Antoinette RENO
Russ McKinstry said that the original was Renaud. They consistently reported on the census that they were French Canadian. Even though the entire clan appeared in Southbridge and Sturbridge, Worcester County, Massachusetts by 1870, most members of each generation through 1930 said they had been born in Canada, and so had their wives. They said they were French Canadian.
The line seems to have:
John Reno age 69 b abt 1811 (1880 census)
Angella 61 b abt 1819 both born Canada
Peter 33 b 1847 (1880) b abt 1850 - 1910 census, both age 60 in 1910
Aremia 32 wife (b abt 1848) both born Canada
Frank 8 b abt 1872
Almeda 6 b abt 1874
Salvine 8 b abt 1872
Armena 1 b abt 1879 All born in Canada
This is not the same family, unless my notes are very screwed up. It has the rough look of same family in 1870 and 1880.

Joseph and family cannot be found in Massachusetts in 1900 nor in 1910; neither can Peter.
Peter married Diana Dastian, spelling approximate, supposedly locally in Southbridge, though she was born in Canada and said on 1920 census she was French Canadian (as did Peter though he reported he was born in Massachusetts.) He said both his paretns were French Canadian. They must have married around 1910, to judge from the subsequent births of their children. One daughter was born around 1911 in Ohio, according to the 1920 census. Two daughters were born around 1912 and 1913 back in Massachusetts, according to hte 1920 census. Three daughters were born in Canada between 1914 and about 1918, according to the 1920 census. The child born in 1914 was born in Calgary, Alberta according to family records. she is my brother in law's grandmother. According to Russ McKinstry, he needed to travel all the way to Calgary, Alberta, to find work as an optician. In 1920 they were back in Southbridge.
General Notes for Child Lilian B RENO
of Brewster, formerly of Southbridge, in 2001 when she died. Obit mentions a stepdaughter, Barbara Clemens of Texas, and a husband, Robert Brown. She lived in Suitland, Maryland, and Southbridge before moving to Brewster in 1968. She wasmanager of a housing complex, retired, adn enjoyed gardening. Her funeral was at Our Lady of Cape Church.
General Notes for Child Yvonne Yvyn) RENAUD
Her obit gives her maiden name as Renaud. She was of Webster, formerly of Central Avenue in Southbridge. She was stricken ill suddenly and died. She left eight children; Peter J. She was then a home health aide for Catholic Charities in Worcester, retiring in 1983. She was married for 58 years. She left two daughters; Cecile Steglitz of Thompson (MA) and Pualine Bourdelais of Southbridge . She lived in Southbridge for most of her life. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and genealogy. A mass was said for her in conjunction with ehr funeral ata funeral home, at Notre Dame Church.
On her obit, her maiden name is given as Renaud.
General Notes for Child Gabriella RENO
It is possible that this child, named in the 1920 census, was really Odette, born about 1918 according to her obituary and not in the 1920 census.
General Notes for Child Richard L. RENAUD
Identified in a sister's obit. Also his own obit. He was an aircraft Metallurgist. He was of Marstons Mills, formerly of 238 South St., Southbridge. He was a standout highschool athlete. General Notes for Child Charles RENO
Identified in a sister's obit.
General Notes for Child Odette RENO
Identified in a sister's obit. She is not Georgette, who is also mentioned in the obit. She could conceivably be Gabriella, who is not mentioned in any of the siblings' obits, was in the 1920 census, unlike Odette, and was born in about 1918, like Odette.
She was married three times; apparently the first two husbands died. She left her last husband, Thomas W. McLaughlin, two sons, Rev. Thomas H. Teczar of West Hyannis Port adn Edward P. Tezar of Arlington, Texas; and a daughter, Patricia L. Ernitz of Auburn (MA). She lived in Auburn for 19 years, moved ot Worcester in 1967, and to Palm Beach, Florida in 1974.

General Notes for Child Henri Napoleon BASTIEN
Information on the Bastien family is mostly from Bernard Vanasse, [email protected], who has a web site on the Vanasse family and its Bastien descendants (and also on stray Bastien's) Information on his children also from Colleen Martineau, [email protected], from teh quebec-research list.
Birth dates for this family are from teh 1901 Canadian census, when the family lived in Saint-Germin-de-Grantham, Drummond & Arthabaska, Quebec. This is all I so far know of the family's origins.
I also have dob 18 Jan 1863 for him. Could be transcription error somewhere.
Grantham is in Drummond County, in the Eastern townships. The town is only a short distance from Ste-Victoire in Richelieu County.
In 1901, the family is found in Grantham, Drummond Co, Quebec.
In 1910, Henry was by himself in Southbridge. His family cannot be found anywhere.
In 1920, he is in Southbridge next to Peter Reno's household, with his entire family. Diana shows up married to Peter Reno. The record shows that the family emigrated in 1902, except for eldest son George who emigrated in 1901, and that several members of hte family were naturalized in Pennsylvania, indicating that the family lived there for awhile.
Henry Bastien was an agent of some sort - I can't read the rest of what the census record says.
The 1881 census suggests that Henry born about 1862 may have been the son of Edward Bastien, and lived in Ste-
Two of his sisters married in Southbridge, Massachusetts. They quite possibly married siblings; both were named Carpentier.
He apparently ran the Bastien Appliance Store.
