General Notes (Husband)
To judge from what was written about him, he was the quietist and most a-social of John Miller's emotionally intense offspring. He kept strictly to himself and took no part in town affairs, which Miller Clan usually did no matter how abnormally quiet they were. Attended meeting regularly, and never once called up for discipline."
James Miller inherited 300 acres in teh south eastern portion of the 1013 acre tract on the death of his father in 1714. This tract lay south of his brother Joseph's land (with a nice house built by their father), an dincluded the farms west of the road from Toughkenamon to New Garden and south of the Chandler farm. The 300 acre tract enxtended south approximately to a line drawn from New Garden meeting to Penn Green school and west to the Dowdall road. The home built by James Miller when he was married is likely part of the present home of Samuel Wickersham.
The New Garden meeting house is located in the southeastern corner of James' property. He sold 6 acres for the meeting house and burial yard to trustees for the meeting house, and they transferred ownership to the meeting in 1723.
In 1768, James was taxed for 290 acres, 5 horses, 5 cattle, 10 sheep and 1 servant. In 1774, when he died, he was taxed for 250 acres, 4 horses, 4 cattle and 8 sheep. He left his property to his son James with provision for his widow. His widow left brass buttles, coverlids, oak chests etc to variouspeople.
