General Notes (Husband)
probably the brother of John Miller, almost certainly a close relative, in his will he names a cousin James Miller prob of John Miller's family. The head of the Miller DNA project says that John and Gayen have the same haplotype, but I have not seen John's. (Immigration of Irish Quakers to Pennsylvania)
He was probably one of hte first two Irish Quakers to secure land in Kennett. He purchased 200 acres at Kennett Square and in 1712 700 acres in Red Clay Creek, includin the eastern part of the present borough of Kennett Square, then in 1712 700 acres in New Garden, on which he may have lived for some years; also several other tracts, served in Provincial Assembly in 1714. He first appeared in Chester County in 1702.
He left a will dated May 31 17432, proved Aug 31 1742, which mentioned "my cousin James MIller", probably but not necessarily the son of John Miller.

To daughter Mary's 3 children, viz, Saml., James and Mary 10 shillings each. To son Benjamin part of a tract of land by Pequea Creek in Lancaster Co now in his possession. To son John the remainder of said tract, estimated to be 250 acres. To son Josephs widow Jane Miller and her 2 children, Samuel and Rebecca £6. To son George 1/2 of plantation where I dwell and the other 1/2 at wifes decease. To wife Margaret all remainder of estate real and personal. Executors: wife Margaret, son William and cousin Jas. Miller. Witnesses: Rachel Miller, George Miller, David Bradford.Gayen was actually elected to the Provincial Assembly to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his possibly brother John between Oct 17, 1714, when John wrote his will, and Nov 11, 1714, when Gayen was elected to fill the vacancy his death created.
The widow of Gayen's son James was remarried to James son of James the possible brother of Gayen.
Gayen Miller is haplogroup R1b1, close to Atlantic modal haplotype. Three people known to be descended from him plus two others share the same haplotype. Gayen's male line ancestors lived in Spain during the last ice age and drifted into England over time. They probably took part in the cave painting culture of the last interglacial period, and they probably knew and competed with Neanderthals. 60% of the people of Western Europe are close to the Atlantic modal haplotype. This haplotype is most concentrated among the Basques of the mountains of northern Spain, who are the oldest ethnic group that survives in Europe. People with this haplotpye are likely to have had long faces, high square foreheads, medium dark complexions and dark hair, and were inclined toward the Hollywood actor sort of classical good looks.
On more research, this actually looks like the R1b1c9 subclade. DYS 492 = 13, DYS 390 = 24 (could also be 23). CYS 426 = 12, DYS 388 = 12, DYS 455 = 11, DYS 454 = 11, DYS 578 = 9, DYS 590 = 9. Peaks in a broad line from southeastern Europe across central Europe to Germany, esp northern Germany, the Netherlands, and Jutland, and England except for Wales and Scotland. It is the predominant R1b in Scandinavia. That said, Gayen's male line ancestor was Saxon, Danish, Norman, or Norse.
