Thomas Harvey deposeth and sayth, That he this deponent having a bond or writing under the hand and seale of Walter Knight, Carpenter, whereby the said Walter Knight stood endepted in the sume of five pounds sterling unto Mr. Christopher Derby, which was paid for his passage over, the which five pounds is to be payed unto Mr. Richard Derby here, as this deponent was reading the same (at sd Knights request) in the ship as they came over, the said Walter Knight snatched the said bond or writing out of this deponents hand and immediately tore the same in pieces." Salem 1626, had been here in 1622, and is now sent over by the Dorchester people to strengthen Conant; perhaps was of Duxbury 1****; in 1653 giv. evidence a. something that occur. in 1622, perhaps only hearsay, he call. his age 66., (

WALTER KNIGHT, Episcopalian, Carpenter: 1622, was in Nantucket, Mass. 1625, in Duxbury 1638, Boston was called Old Knight. in deposition 1624 gave age as 39, 1 mo. In 1653 gave age as 66 Walter Knight immigrated aboard the "Zouch Phenix" in 1624.

He was a Master Salter employed by the Dorchester Company which wrote to Bradford, "We have now sent you, we hope, men and means, to setle these 3 things, viz., fishing, salt making, and boat making…. The salt-man is a skillful and industrious man, put some [helpers] to him, that may quickly apprehende the misterie of it." Bradford did not like the salter, whom he described as "an ignorante, foolish, self-willd fellow" who, after making a survey of the possibilities, assured Bradford that he could make a profitable salt works if he could have eight to ten full-time workers, which he was given, "but in the end all proved vaine." Bradford continued, "the next yere he was sente to Cap-Anne," but burned the house and spoiled the salt pans, "and this was an end of that chargeable bussines". Walter was a member of the expedition team for the Dorchester Company which established their fishing and support settlements at Cape Ann and the surrounding inland. He returned to England, but was sent back with his family to ensure the success of Natick, MA.

Walter's personality kept him in and out of the courts for the greater part of his rather long life. At various times he was charged with abusive language, assault, fornication and abandonment.
