General Notes (Husband)

2066–2067. John Purchas was born in Hatfield, Essex County, England, in 1545, and died in Great Waltham, Essex County, England, before October 11, 1585. His wife was Margaret _____ They were married in Essex County, England. She took the name Margaret Purchas. They had five children:


i. John Purchas: (the "eldest son, John") three children are mentioned in his father's will: John, William, and Alice.
ii. Thomas Purchas: his father's will refers to one daughter.
iii. Mary Purchas [#1033]: She was born in England and died in Essex County about 1627.
iv. John Purchas: (the "younger son, John").
v. George Purchas


In his will, John Purchas calls himself a tanner of Much Waltham, Essex. This will was dated March 27, 1585, and includes the following bequest: "and the other £10 I give to Mary, my daughter, wife of John Warnerd. I give to either of the two children of the said Mary, my daughter, namely: to Thomas Warner and Mary Warnore, 6 shillings, 8 pence apiece at the age of 18, or the day of marriage." The will distinctly refers to two sons named John, the younger being named executor. This will was proved on October 11, 1585. This will is given on page 9 of The Descendants of Andrew Warner by Lucien Warner and Josephine Nichols, 1919, from which all of the information in this entry is taken.
