General Notes (Wife)
She was a widow when Thomas married her. Her first husband was probably John Michell ofFressingfield, whose will, dated 16 Apr 1553, was probated 10 Jul 1555, leaving properties in Fressingfield, as well as all his goods, to his wife, Frances. He had receifved his lands by "graunte of Will'm Foxe & c. He appointed Frances executor and stipulated that she educate and bring up Stphan his son and Alice his daughter and make specific bequests, including parcels of land. Thomas and Frances had atleast seven children, atleast three of whom died as infants. She died only a few weeks after Thomas.
His will appointed Frances executrix and stipulated that she
... educate and bringe uppe Stephane my snoe and Alice my dowghter with sufficiente meate and drynke and all other things mete and necessarie kepynge them also in chastitie and good order untyll... ther severall ages of syxtene yeres. (At twenty years or marriage she should give them each four pounds in money.) ... to Katheren Water my servaunte and belchilde two mylche keine at her amrriage... yf she shal be seryable and jentle to my sayde wief... to wife Frances a peece of woods called Kyngshall woode... in Mendham --- eyght acres holden of the manor of Kyngshall in Mendham (son Stephen to receive this at the age of twenty-four; because John had not as yet a... lawfull .. surrender (to this property, Frances should obtain such) of Johan Stanton latele the wief of Thomas Stanton and also at the hands of John Stanton their sone and heyre.
To Thomas Aldous and his wife Frances were born at least seven children. Infant burials appear for two of tehm; one other surely died as an infant, and possibly a fourth did as well. Thomas is called Junior in most of his children's baptismal entries.
