General Notes (Husband)
He was one of the earliest settler in Deerfield, He was kiled by Indians in the Battle of Bloody Brook, Sept 18, 1675.
Buried with "Lathrops Co". (Epitah from Enfield St Conn Cemetery)
His brother Nehemiah was great grandfather to Revolutionary War hero Ethan Allen; when I was a child, my mother made much of this relationship (though direct ancestor Joseph served in the Revolutionary War in his own right).
His sons John and Samuel settled in Enfield, CT.
General Notes (Wife)
Willard Allen and Orrin Allen give Mary Hannum, who married John Allen in Northampton, MA i on 16 Dec 1669, as born on 5 Apr 1650, to William Hannum, but they differ on her mother. One says Hannah, the other Honor. Orrin Allen says they were of Northampton; the other doesn't say.
Rev. William Hannum, Wiliam Hannum of New England and some of his descendants, NEHGR 1936, says her parents were William the emigrant, and Honor. He and wife Honor testfied in the case of Joseh Parsons against Sarah, wife of James Brdigman, in 1656, on a chareg of slander in having called Mary, wife of Joseph, a witch. Trumbull, History of Northampton, vol 1, p 43-50, from the court record. The article further identifies her as HonorCapen, daughter of Barnard and Joan Capen.
