State Agency. Probate File. Robert Steele made a will, dated 1 Oct 1547. It is listed in F. G. Emmison's book, Wills in the Esseex Record office, Vol. 1, as "145 BW 33" (probably p. 145 of volume BW 33).

Probate Record. Will of Robert Steele, from Essex Record Office, Chelmsford.

State Agency. Probate File. In his will, dated 1 Oct 1547, Robert Steele of Fairstead, writes, "I give to Anne my wife for terme of her lyff my parcel of land called Markes..." Thus he had a right to a plot of land which he was able to pass on through inheritance, indicating that he had the status of yeoman.

Ibid. In his will, dated 1 Oct 1547, Robert Steele of Faristead, writes, "I give to Anne my wife..."

Unfortunately I don't have the source of this research, because the page of notes for the database was so long I could not directly print it but had to copy and paste it into Notepad. The author of the web site has done extensive research on the family and published it in a book asI recall.
