I have a source saying Mary ___, the first wife, was really the mother of the children.
But if he married Mary in England, he didn't appear to have brought her with him. He was the youngest of three brothers who sailed together and no family or servants wree listed on the ship roll.

Note: It's possible that Elizabeth Herrick, wife of John Batchelder, is the brother of Henry (Heyricke) Herrick, daughter of William (Eyrick) Herrick. This family came from Beau Manor Park, Loughborough, Leicestershire, England. I cannot make a definite connection, (
It is not clear that Henry Herrick was the son of a line of famous people from Leicester. Henry or his son was a carpenter. I have seen him linked, but even that person has him marrying a woman from Dorcestsershire, which is a much more likely place of origin.
