It is not known when or where Jonathan Prescott was born
as there is no record, that we can learn, either at Halifax, Watertown or Lancaster,
from the dates of the births of the other children, it is highly probable that he was
born at Watertown at about 1643. He settled at Lancaster, Mass. where he married (1)
Dorothy ____ on August 3, 1670. She died and he removed to Concord, Mass. in 1675,
where he m. (2) Elizabeth Hoar, dau. of John Hoar, Esq., a lawyer of Concord, Mass.
on Dec. 23, 1675. She died Sept 25, 1687 and he m. (3) Rebecca (Wheeler) Bulkley,
the widow of the Honorable Peter Bulkley, Jr. She was a dau. of Lieut. Joseplh Wheeler.
After she died he m. (4) Aug 18, 1718, Ruth Brown who died Feb 9, 1740. He was a farm-
er and was the ancestor of a numerous progeny, many of whom have been distinguished
for talents, piety and usefulness. His house was fortified as a garrison house in 1676.
He was a man of energy and influence and highly respected, being much employed in
public business. He was a Representative of the town of Concord, Mass., in the General
Assembly for nine years: 1692, 1693, 1694, 1695, 1697 and 1699 and in 1712 and 1713.
He was Captain in the militia and always designated as Captain Prescott (Lemuel Shattuck
in his History of Concord, Mass., gave him the designation of Major) He died Dec. 5,
1721.
