General:
He could read and write and spelled phonetically. His father signed over the family lands to him before he died. H was described at his father's death as a yeoman. He served as a fffefee of the Stone Charity, and as an Overseer of the Poor. He helped other parish office holders with writing assemsments and accounts with "his characteristic writing and spelling". In 1720 he was made Church warde at Stone, and his accounts show him paying for supplies for the church. He made over his property to his eldest son before he died. His inventory shows him possessing two rooms, one over the other, which must have been large and contaned alot of furniture. The lower room contained two bedsteads, an old press, a table and chairs, pots, pans and pewter together with a warming pan. Upstairs were two beds with chestes and coffers, cuboards, chairs, stools an dassorted linen. He had in addition two old cows and a calf, and seven sheep. He left furniture to his grandchildren, and mentions that his six year old grandson John shared his bed, which was left to the boy. He had five children, of whom only John and Elizabeth lived to adulthood.
