Zechariah Field was born in East Ardsley in the West Riding of Yorkshire, abt 1600, arrived in Boston, 1629. He was a son of John and grandson of JOhn Field, a distinguished astronomer in England. (According to History of Hatfield) He lived in Dorchester, 1630. His place of rsidence is still known as Fields' Corner. He moved to the Connecticut Valley and settled in Hartford in 1639 upon Sentinel Hill, at the north end of Main St., removed to Northhampton in 1659 and to Hatfield in 1660, where he was buried June 30, 1666. His alotment of a homestead was on the first lot on the west side of Main St. above the Nhn road. (Northampton?) (History of Hatfield)
He was over 60 when he settled in Hatfield. He was one of the 42 men furnished by Hartford to takea part in the Pequot War. His house in Hartford was upon Sentinel Hill near the present north end of Main STreet. He was prosperous and the owner of a large amount of land, upon which is Asylum Street. The land records in Hartford contain a number of transfers made by or to him from 1639-62. He removed to Nrothampton in 1659 and engaged in business trading extensively with the Indians.
