General:
No evidence whatever who she was or where she or her husband came from, save the general evidence that they were from southwestern England. Lotta theories, however.
She moved with her family of six children to Northampton after the death of her husband Samuel, and remarried; William Hurlbut.
Seh deposed 7 Jul 1662 that she was 54 years old. (SJC Case #468).
An old notion is that they were from Braintree, Essex, England; unproven and unlikely. The Dorchester people were from southwestern England and Samuel Allen's movements paralleled theirs. I do not believe they were ever in Braintree, Massachusetts; Samuel lived in Cambridge and then Windsor. There was another Samuel Allen who was granted property in Braintree.
I have several subtly different accounts of her second marriage. According to Orrin Allen, "The widow, Ann Allen, married (date not gievn) William Hurlbut, who had also settled in Windsor, and was from Dorchester. They removed to Northampton, Mass., in 1657, taking teh Allen children with them. ... It is doubtful id children were born to them after teh second marriage". Clearly children were born of the second marriage.
