I have a source saying Mary ___, the first wife, was really the mother of the children.

But if he married Mary in England, he didn't appear to have brought her with him. He was the youngest of three brothers who sailed together and no family or servants wree listed on the ship roll.

"Two Early Passenger Lists", July 1921 NEHGR, copied from records of Sandwich, County Kent, England, Yearbooks C and D 1608 - 42. The three brothers Henry, Joseph and John, two of them with wives and servants. Roll of surnames of people took passage from town and port of Sandwich, Co Kent, since last turned into office of Dover Castle from said town. 11 May 1637.
