Eva was 18 months old when her mother died. Alexander remarried and when Eva was a teenager, according to what she told her daughter Clara, he insisted that she work in the fields like a man. So Eva spent as much time as she could living with Molly, her oldest sister.

Lewis Ford CHAPMAN was born 31 August 1857 in Janesville, WI to John K. and Ann (SHERRILL) CHAPMAN. He was a Chicago banker, and lived in Highland Park, IL. Lewis died 6 July 1936, aged 78.
