Effie ROBERTS and Frank DURHAM had two children, John and Margery who were minors in 1925 when both Effie and Frank died.

John's maternal grandfather, Daniel J. ROBERTS died in March, 1930, when John was a 20 year old young man. And he was at his maternal great-grandmother Mary DeARMOND ROBERTS' 100th birthday party later in 1930.

In October of 1934, John's maternal grandmother Annaretta DeARMOND ROBERTS died.

Margery was 10 when both her parents died within 2 months of each other in 1925.

Margery's maternal grandfather, Daniel J. ROBERTS died in March, 1930, when she was 15. And she probably was at her maternal great-grandmother Mary DeARMOND ROBERTS' 100th birthday party later in 1930.

The 1930 census shows Marjorie DURHAM living with her uncle and aunt, Clarence H. CONNETT and Sherley CONNETT, and their 11 year old son Willard CONNETT.

In October of 1934, Margery's maternal grandmother Annaretta DeARMOND ROBERTS died.

In 1955, it appears that Margery was the Marjorie A. RIETH, born in Ohio in 1915, who lived with Grace BIAS, her aunt, in Florida.

[George Robert's father] "Daniel J. Roberts, a well known farmer, son of George W. and Mary (Rumple) Roberts, was born in St. Charles, Morgan township, Butler county, January 2, 1856.

His paternal grandparents were John and Elizabeth (Guilder) Roberts. His father, George W. Roberts, was born in Virginia, and came to Butler county with his parents, who were also parents of the following children:

  • Adeline, who married Daniel Rumple;
  • Emma, Mrs. Wilson;
  • Margaret;
  • Mary, who became the wife of John Willett;
  • David,
  • William and
  • Edward, all deceased;
  • Daniel; and
  • George, the father of Daniel J. Roberts, the subject of this biography.

    David and Edward Roberts served throughout the Civil war, the latter losing life in battle.

    John Roberts, the grandfather, also fought in the Civil war, and was lost in action. It is thought that the brave old soldier was killed, as he was never heard from again.

    George W. Roberts, Daniel Roberts' father, married Mary Rumple, and settled in Morgan township. She was a daughter of Daniel Rumple, a pioneer merchant of Butler county, who had conducted a hardware business at Hamilton. George Roberts and his wife spent their entire lives in Morgan township. Their children were:

  • Daniel J.;
  • Albert, who lives in Richland, Mo.;
  • Orella, who became the wife of Samuel Gillespie; and
  • Edgar, deceased.

    Daniel J. Roberts attended school in Morgan township, and at Hamilton, after which he engaged in farming. In 1877 he married Addie DeArmond, daughter of Randolph and Mary (George) DeArmond. After marriage, Mr. Roberts and his wife settled in Morgan township, on the old Morehouse farm.

    Their union has been blessed with these children:

  • George,
  • James,
  • Lora,
  • Effie,
  • Phoebe,
  • Imogene and
  • Grace.

    George Roberts married Carrie Prall, who lives in Hamilton, and has two children, Eugene and Dorothy;
    James married Alta Cornett, and with their one child [in 1919], they reside with his father.
    Lora died some years ago.
    Effie became the wife of Frank Durham, and has two children, John and Margery.
    Phoebe has not married.
    Imogene was married to Clarence Connett, and their home is in Carthage. They have one child, Willard.
    Grace has not married [in 1919].

    Daniel J. Roberts' farm is one of great natural beauty, and in size totals 121 acres. Upon this farm, besides his agricultural work, he raises fine Jersey cattle, and today is the owner of seventeen head. During the war Mr. Roberts entered actively into home service in connection with all patriotic activities. In politics, he is a Democrat."

    1930-54
    BUTLER COUNTY, OH

    Margery was with her aunt and uncle, Imogene and Clarence CONNETT, in the 1930 census. I am looking for proof that she married Mr. Rieth, and was the Margery A. RIETH who lived with Grace Roberts BIAS in Florida after 1955. John's whereabouts are still unknown.

    Did Grace BIAS (aged 54 in 1954) and Marjery (Marjorie) A. Rieth (aged 39 in 1954) move to Florida together?

    Without definite proof, it seems that Marjorie, born in Ohio 1915, was Grace's niece Marjery DURHAM. Margery, the daughter of Grace's sister, Effie Roberts DURHAM, was born in 1915. Both of her parents died of flu when she was 10 (in 1925). Marjery lived with her aunt and uncle, Imogene and Clarence CONNETT (1930 census). So far I'm not sure where her elder brother John Durham (b 1910) lived after 1925.

    1955-60

    MANATEE COUNTY, FL
    Researcher Sandi Kneer discovered that Grace BIAS was listed in several city directories living with Marjorie A. RIETH from Ohio, born in 1915. In 1955, Grace (listed as widow of Roy Bias) was living at 1315 Evelyn Avenue, Sarasota, FL and so was Marjorie Rieth, who was an Assistant Office Manager at Climate Control Airport. Marjorie was not listed as a widow.

    In 1957 Grace A Bias widow of L. Bias was living at 2180 Hillview, Sarasota, FL

    In 1958 Grace A Bias, widow of Leroy BIAS, was living at 2180 Hillview Ave Sarasota, FL. On 18 August 1958, Marjorie Rieth bought a house at 2403 Stanford Avenue in Bayshore Gardens. (Marjorie owned this house until she died in 1999 or 2000.)

    In 1960, the city directory had Grace and Marjorie still living at the 2403 Stanford Avenue house. Marjorie was an executive secretary for Max Welding Costume Rentals. The City Directory showed Grace A. Bias as the widow of Roy Bias.

    1980-89
    In the 1980 and 1989 directories, Grace R Bias and Marjorie Rieth are still both listed at the Stanford Avenue address. Mrs. Rieth (aged 65 in Aug 1980) was listed as the costume manager for Ringling Brother Circus in nearby Venice, FL.

    1990-2000
    1990: (22 Jan) Grace Bias died within 5 days of her 90th birthday. Sandi Kneer contacted the Historical Society in Manatee County which had no record of an obituary for Grace in their files.

    2000: (14 May) Marjorie died at the age of 84. The house was eventually "quit claimed" to Craig Rieth, and was later sold. The Social Security Death Index shows Marjorie A. Rieth, SSN 269-09-2898 (issued before 1951 from OH), with her last resident in Brandenton, Manatee County, FL (zip 34207). She was born 18 Aug 1915, and died 14 May 2000.
