Isaac TEETOR's Family Biography
More information at Robert Mitchell's Rootsweb site

Isaac TEETOR was born 7 January 1808 in NY. His father was born in Germany, and his mother was born in New Jersey.

Isaac came west and had settled in Morgan township of Butler County, Ohio by 1829 when he married Mary MOORE 29 January 1829. Although the 1830 and 1840 censuses show they had other children with them, their first known child was William, born eight to ten years later.

1830 census: The 1830 Butler Co OH census showed Isaac (aged 20-29), a female (aged 20-29) and 1 male (aged under 5).

1840 census: The 1840 Butler Co OH census showed Isaac (aged 30-39), a female (aged 20-29), 1 male child (aged 10-14), 1 male child (aged 5-9), 1 male child (aged under 5), and 1 female child (aged under 5).

Isaac and Mary's first known child was William Wilson Teetor, born 1839 (or 1837, per Rosemary Teeter) in Okeana, OH. James was born in 1841, and Robert was born in 1844. Without names in the 1840 census, it is likely that William Wilson Teetor is the male child under 5. But it isn't possible to tell who these older children were.

1847: Mary Moore Teeter died on 7 August 1847.

1850 census: The Teetor's are not listed in Butler County census. In Morgan township, there is a Mary Jane Clawson, aged 23, living with Joseph Clawson (aged 47) and Belinda Clawson (aged 40) and younger siblings, including George, aged 17.

On 21 February 1856, Isaac married Mary Jane CLAWSON in Okeana, OH. Joseph was their first child, born a year later on 23 February 1857. They had seven more children, including Stephen Douglas Teetor, born 24 June 1860 in Okeana, and a pair of twins born in 1868. Mary J. Clawson Teetor died 28 February 1871.

1860 census: Isaac Teetor, aged 50, is listed in Morgan township of Butler County, living near George W. Clawson, aged 27. He was probably Mary Jane's brother. Mary J. Teetor is 33. William W. is 21. James M. is 19. Robert F. is 15. Joseph is 3. Catherine is 1.

1864: Isaac's mother, Margaret Furman Teetor, was living in Goshen, Clermont Co, Ohio when she died on 18 June, 1864, and the age of 83. Born 30 September 1780 in NJ, it is not known how long Margaret lived in Goshen, OH. She was buried at the Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio with many relatives from her mother's Enyart family. Neither her mother, Jane Enyart Furman, nor her father Benjamin Furman was buried there. (This information was provided by Jerry Forman with details at the Spring Grove Cemetery pdf file on Margaret.)

A Benjamin Furman was an early resident of Hamilton (1798-tax records) County, per Miami Valley Genealogical Index, but Margaret Furman and Henry Teetor were still in Dryden, Tompkins County, NY when they married in 1800. And Isaac was born in NY in 1808. A Benjamin Furman was a resident of Clark (1820-census) County, per Miami Valley Genealogical Index.

Henry Firman Teetor , born in PA to Henry and Margaret Teetor, died 4 Feb 1907 at home in Home City, OH at the age of 87. Many other Teetor's were buried at Spring Grove Cemetery.

1870 census: Isaac and Mary Jane are listed in Morgan township, Butler Co, OH with their family from Joseph (13) through the twins (2). James Teetor and family live next door. George W Clawson was still farming nearby. Isaac's 8 year old daughter Mary E. becomes Elizabeth in the 1880 census. His 6 year old daughter Cynthia E. becomes Ella in the 1880 census. The twins Belinda A. becomes Alma and Fanny E. becomes Emma in the 1880 census.

1880 census Isaac was listed as TEETER in 1880 census, #109-111. Although Mary had died before the 1880 census, it was noted that she, as the children's mother, she was born in Ohio.

The children still living with Isaac in 1880 were:

Joseph, 23, b about 1856-7 in OH
Catherine, 21, b about 1858 in OH
Stephen, 19, b 24 June 1860 in Morgan twp, Butler Co OH
