He was killed by a dynamite blast while supervising the construction of the "Dry Wolf Kings Hill" Forest Road.

He was born near Falling Spring, W. Va., on his father's farm, William Renick (1792-1867) and cousin, Rebecca Renick (1791-1845), the youngest of his parents' nine children. Frank was said to have been the first man to introduce dehorning of cattle in the State of W. Va., and the first in Pocahontas Co. to use commercial fertilizer. He owned a horse-power threshing machine, which permitted him, with a small force, to thresh his grain in a large barn on rainy days. Another progressive move for his day was to have water piped into his kitchen and into troughs in the fields for the stock.

He was born at White Sulphur Springs, W. Va. and was graduated from V.P.I. in 1930. Entered U.S. Army Air Corps. Commissioned at Kelly Field, Texas, and assigned to Selfridge Field, Mich. In Dec., 1932, while flying his plane to Hot Springs, Va., to spend Christmas with his parents, he was killed in a crash of his plane on Pool's Knob, W. Va. The wreck and his body were not found for 12 days, despite an intensive air search. The Airport at Marlinton, W. Va., is named for him; and Karl Myers, a poetlaureate of W. Va., wrote a poem about him, entitled, "The Boy Who Didn't Get Home for Christmas Day."
