MISSOURI:* KANSAS CITY: Interstate 29 starts in KC, MO first as part of I-35, then veering left where I-35 veers right toward Des Moines. At first, the Loess Hills are not visible from the interstate, but are to the west, nearer the Missouri River on the MO-KS state line.

Exit 10: Drury Inn and Suites, Airport
Exit 12: Days Inn and Suites and Econo Lodge - KCI Airport* Weston Bend State Park: A 3 mile hiking and bicycling trail winds up and down the Loess Hills of the area. This park is not on I-29, but on 45N, south of the town of Weston, famous for antiques.
* ST JOSEPH: The Loess Bluffs along I-29 appear north of St. Joe, MO in the area of Andrew County, where at first you drive over the bluffs. There are several lodging options in St Joseph around the I-29 and Frederick Blvd/State Hwy 6 exit, including the Comfort Suites, Days Inn, Drury Inn, Ramada Inn, and Super 8 Motel. St. Jo was made popular by the Pony Express and Jesse James.
* ROCKPORT: 60 miles north of St. Joe, and 60 miles south of Omaha, NE and Council Bluffs, IA, Rockport MO has one motel near the bluffs - the Super 8 Motel. They have a 24 hour restaurant and deli adjacent to the motel.
IOWA:
The Loess Hills Scenic Byway (map) br> the south, leave I-29 at Hamburg, IA, and take highway 275 through Tabor, Glenwood, and Council Bluffs. At Logan, take route 127 through Moorhead and Castana to Hwy 982 back to I-29 just south of Sioux City. The byway continues north on Hwy 12. At Akron, take Hwy 48 back to I-29.Along the way you will see Waubonsie State Park, Todd House Museum (Tabor, IA hub of Underground Railroad), Pony Creek Park, General Dodge House (Council Bluffs), Historic Squirrel Cage Jail (Council Bluffs), I-80, Harrison County Historical Village, Iowa Welcome Center, Murray Hill Scenic Overlook, Loess Hills State Forest, Preparation Canyon State Park, Turin Man Archeological Site, The Loess Hills Wildlife Area, Stone State Park, Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center, Five Ridge Prairie, Broken Kettle Grasslands, and Akron, IA.

* BELLEVIEW, NE:
Offutt Air Force Base is west of I-29.* COUNCIL BLUFFS: Near I-29 is the Fairfield Inn by Marriott on 30th Avenue. Called the "Loess Hills" here, they overlook the nearby "Mall of the Bluffs" (shopping) and "Bluffs Run" (dog racing). I-29 and the State Route 275 exit takes you to Lake Manawa State Park, for picnicing, camping, and trails.
SOUTH DAKOTA:
* If traveling north, the Hills fade in southeast South Dakota around Exit 31 on I-29. Scenic Byway map and directions.
