EUREKA SPRINGS, AR (southern Ozarks)
WHAT TO SEE AND DO:
Eureka Springs is known for the springs, art, Victorian houses, bed & breakfasts, the Great Passion Play, Christ of the Osarks, shopping, fudge, weddings, old time photos, entertainment, nearby fishing, and places to spend the night. After exploring the historic district downtown loop, explore the many shops and restaurants along the main highway.

There are many scenic drives here, both in and out of town. Shuttles drive you from your motel to sites all around town. During the day, see the New Holy Land Tour at the same location east of town where Great Passion Play is presented at night. Two country western shows play much of the year. You also might want to go south on Rt 23 to Turpentine Creek wild life reserve, then further on to the War Eagle Mill. Grain is ground here by water wheel, and twice a year they host large craft fairs in the fields nearby. Pictures

Nearby Beaver Lake (Hwy 23 south to Hwy 12 west, or 62 west to Hwy 187 south), Lake Leatherwood, and the White River provide fishing, boating, cruises, canoe float trips.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO:
Area Attractions include the Bagnell Dam, Bigsurf Waterpark, Bridal Cave, Premium Outlet Mall with over 100 Stores, Ha Ha Tonka State Park, Lake of the Ozarks (with over 1,100 miles of shoreline). This is a great place to get away to fish, boat, play golf or tennis, sit by the lake or in your hot tub.

KANSAS - Kansas on-line reservations
FORT SCOTT, KS (Civil War side trip)
WHAT TO SEE AND DO:
In season, Dolly the Trolly will take you around the town to see local houses and the 1st National Cemetery in the USA. Fort Scott was built on the trail between Ft. Leavenworth, KS and Ft. Smith, AR and is in the area of Kansas called "Bloody Kansas" during the time leading up to the Civil War. Pictures

The northern part of town is the actual restored Fort. Re-enactors are sometimes there, and at other times Park Service personnel are available to answer questions.

WHERE TO STAY in Fort Scott

Side trip: Kansas City, KS is further north on Hwy 69 to I-435 west, then north.
