Lodging in Cities of South Dakota, below   Black Hills PANORAMA and LIVE CAMS in Deadwood, Rapid City, and Sturgis

Families, fishermen, hunters, snowmobilers, campers, skiers, gamblers, motercyclists, and history buffs visit the Black Hills.

* Rapid City   - Web Cam

Nestled into the northeastern border of the Black Hills National Forest, Rapid City is a great home base - with a wide variety of places to stay - for day trips into the hills. Learn about the Great Sioux Nation at the Lakota Journey Museum. WHERE TO STAY

* Custer

Custer is centrally located for scenic drives to all the major Black Hills attractions: Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park, Jewel Cave, and Wind Cave. Browse the unique shops downtown. Chose the perfect motel or bed and breakfast to fit your Black Hills interests and activities. WHERE TO STAY

* Deadwood - Photos - Main Street CAM (live) - Panorama 65th Rally (2005)

Home of the Number 10 Saloon where Wild Bill Hickok was shot, Deadwood offers legal gambling just like in the gold rush days. Many stay in Deadwood for the scenic drives, hiking, hunting, fishing, and nearby skiing (in Lead). Find Calamity Jane's grave in Mount Moriah Cemetary, tour the Adams House, pan for gold in the Broken Boot Mine, or take a self-guided walking tour of this national historic landmark city. WHERE TO STAY

* Hill city

The 1880 Train ride is another way to see the hills from this town near Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Monument. Try a bed and breakfast vacation with trail rides, or a lodge, inn, or motel. WHERE TO STAY

* Hot Springs - Photos

Stay in this southern hills city to have enough time to visit the mammoth excavation site, then swim indoors at the Evans Plunge. Nearby are the Angostura Recreation Area and wildlife roaming through the Wind Cave National Park. WHERE TO STAY

* Keystone

Two miles from Mt. Rushmore, Keystone offers family fun and souvenir shopping. For fishing and horseback riding mid-May through September, book a 4-6 days stay (including meals and entertainment) at the Triple R Dude Ranch near Keystone. WHERE TO STAY

* Lead

Terry Peak offers downhill skiing in the Black Hills. Lead was the location of the Homestake Gold Mine. Deadwood gaming is about 15 minutes away. Stay in Lead for winter sports, rock climbing, hiking, biking, and fishing. Book a vacation get-away at Mountain Streams Estates for fishing, hunting, lakes, on-property riding and snowmobile trails. For downhill skiing within walking distance to the chair lift, check out Terry Peak Lodge. WHERE TO STAY

* Spearfish

Besides outdoor sports and scenery around this northwestern Black Hills city, Spearfish also offers the Passion Play and shopping. View the canyon from your deck at the Spearfish Canyon Resort, then go snowmobiling, cross country skiing, hunting, trout fishing, and rock climbing. Downhill skiing is 15 miles away (Lead). WHERE TO STAY

* Sturgis - Main Street CAM (live)

North of Deadwood on I-90, Sturgis is known for its Sturgis Bike Week each August. Nearby is the Bear Butte State Park. Reserve your room early for Bike Week. WHERE TO STAY:
* Best Western Inn of Sturgis (I-90 at Exit 32 to South Junction Avenue)
* Days Inn (I-90 to Exit 30 at Highway 14 to Lazelle Street)
* Super 8 Motel (I-90 at Exit 30 to Whitewood Road)

* Wall - Photos

On I-90 northwest of the Badlands National Park, Wall is known for the drug store that offered early tourists free ice water. They have a lot more to offer families with entertainment and shopping. WHERE TO STAY
