Recently found a reference to U.S. Senator George Augustus Waggaman.
He
served in the Senate representing Louisiana from 15 Nov 1831 to 3 March
1835. He was later killed in a duel in New Orleans, 22 March
1843.
Research indicates he was born in 1790 in Dorchester Co., MD and
admitted to the bar in Caroline Co., MD. He served in the War
of 1812
under General Jackson in New Orleans. He settled in Baton Rouge
after
the war. My first question is: Is this Waggaman the progenitor
of the
Louisiana Waggamans? It seems to be a big name in Louisiana and
was
wondering if it had Maryland Roots. My second question:
Does anyone
have any data on G.A. Waggaman's parents, siblings, etc.?
