From Tom & Jeannette Johnson

These are some of the pictures from Tom and Jeannette's 60th wedding anniversary.!

They have 4 children

and
9 grandchildren.

(Editors note: "Tom, I only count 8.")

NO Greats as yet. Jeannette and I got married twice, Feb. 15, 1957 and because we liked it so much, we got married again on August 15,1957. We immigrated to Canada after our son Mark,

(the big guy)
was born in W.W. . He was 6mos old.
We all have dual citizenships which is a bonus. We currently are enjoying good health and are looking forward to our next reunion. I will be hitting our 8 decades this month on the 19th as well. Jeannette follows on Dec. `12. We hope that all of our school friends are doing O.K. as well and miss seeing them.

The license plate was very appropriate as was the color.
I thought it deserverd a place on the WaHi 56 web site.

Dick was kind enough to give Sue and I a tour of Anchorage, including stops
at various displays of public art and some magnificent vistas of the Alaska landscape around Anchorage.

We enjoyed a nice seafood dinner at the Anchorage Sea Galley and topped off our first meeting since

Message from Bill Douglas about Molly
Molly had surgery yesterday to repair her femur just below the hip area. After an X-ray, CT and MRI it has come as a surprise that there is some bone cancer in that area and possibly across her lower pelvic. It is not set in stone but her oncologist (Dr. Cui) has been visiting her and explained that she is still trying to determine what the prognosis is and what needs to be done. Molly is still in the hospital (Valley Medical) and will remain there a few more days (not sure how long). She may then go to a rehab center for a short period of time to get her diet back on track (eating regularly) and strength back in her legs. Im doing my best to help her keep a positive attitude. There is a lot of fear showing in her eyes. We so appreciate all of your prayers and truly believe they work.

After graduating from high school, he ventured out with the help of his father to open Chicks Drive-in, a local favorite for many years. Eventually, he moved on to develop his love and talent for landscaping. He co-owned a landscaping business and then worked at the Walla Walla Memorial Golf Course. Later he worked for Walla Walla Community College developing the grounds and continuing on as the grounds supervisor for over 15 years. Bryce was married to his wife, Yvonne, for 43 years. We were recently informed of the April 2008 death of our friend and classmate Joan Arthurs Van Hemert by her son Michael Foster.
Joan in 1956 Click on picture
After graduating from Wa-Hi in 1956, my Mom spent one year at Central Washington University. During that time she met my Dad, William (Bill) Foster, who was attending Washington State University. After a brief courtship the two married in 1958. They had three children: Clark Jay, James Ray and myself, Michael David.

After a marriage of 14 years, the two divorced in 1972. My mom met my step-father (Carver Dan Van Hemert) in 1976, and they married in 1981. During that time we all moved to Port Angeles in 1981 from Walla Walla (with a stop in Everett in the late 70s). Mom and Dan lived first in Port Angeles until 1987. They moved first to North Seattle (where they lived until 1995), then to Steilacoom until 1998, and finally to Olympia until my mother's passing in April 2008.

Mom worked for several years in retail at K-Mart, and worked in Security for approximately 10 years in the Seattle/Tacoma area (a profession she enjoyed). She also liked to garden and also enjoyed old movies.

Mom passed away from complications from surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm.

I know that Mom enjoyed high school very much and am sure she treasured the many friendships she cultivated at Wa-Hi.

    2008 1956
    Nola (Monroe) Urlocker

NOLA SIMONE URLOCKER Born in South Bend, Indiana on 8 August 1938,
went to be with her Lord and Savior, JESUS, on 5 August 2008. Her body
would not respond after yet another abdominal surgery. The Lord must
have declared, "Enough is Enough, No More Pain For My Tired Child, I Am
Taking Her Home". Wherever she was, the soft glow of her smile and the
kindness of and in her heart, sweetened whoever was fortunate to be near.
She wanted everyone to know she loved the Lord Jesus, and wanted everyone
to also know Him. She is with Him now, where she always intended to be,
still praying and interceding for them with Jesus, waiting for them to
make the same commitment. She was an artist with decorative arrangements,,
an accomplished musician on piano and organ, and made a recordng
some years ago for her husband, family and friends, entitled "Just Me".
She leaves behind a grieving husband, her mother, 4 children, 5 great grandchildren,
a sister and brother, and many, many friends. Our hearts are broken
but for selfish reasons, because she is not with us, but also at the same
time rejoicing that she is now safe with her Lord and Savior. Her favorite
song is "Going Home", recorded by the Gaithers. When you hear it, you will
know that what it says is where she wanted to be. According to her wishes,
there will be no immediate service, but sometime in the near future, a
family and close friend Memorial To Her Life, will be scheduled. "I Love
You Forever And A Year, Sweetheart", your husband, Arn.

I do not have an obituary to send you but I do have some excellent pictures from our 70th birthday party to share with you. Mike appeared to be having a great time with special friends from our class.

I just talked to Kathy on the phone a few minutes ago and learned that Mike and Kathy were on a vacation when during the the night of October 4th, 2010, Mike died of an apparent heart attack in his sleep. They had just celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on September 1st, and had just enjoyed their first visit to Lake Tahoe and spending some time with their son and granddaughter.

I am sitting here at my computer tonight and raising a glass of my favorite Walla Walla Red Wine in a toast to one of our classmates from the "WA-Hi Class of 1956". I hope you will join me in remembering one of ours and offering a prayer and condolences for Mike's wife, Kathy and their family.

    Yours Truly,

Jim Irwin, still in Walla Walla

Ladin Delaney

Dec. 10, 1937 -Sept. 09, 2010

Ladin "Red" Delaney passed away at his home on Sept. 7,2010. He was 72, when he lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on Dec. 10, 1937, in Turtle Lake, N.D., to Lydia and James Delaney. He moved to Walla Walla with his parents when he was an infant. He attended Green Park Elementary, Pioneer Junior High and graduated in 1956 from Walla Walla High School, where he was class president before going on to Washington State University. While pursuing academic excellence at WSU, he also found time to get married. In 1958 he married Carol Davis, also of Walla Walla. He graduated from WSU in 1961, with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering, and then again in 1962, with a master of science degree in sanitary engineering.

After receiving his master's degree, Red, Carol, and their 3-year-old daughter moved to Southern California, where Red began his career working for the state of California.

Ladin spent most of his career working for the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, San Diego Region. The Regional Board is a regulatory agency of the state of California with a mission of protecting water quality. He began work for the Regional Board in 1962, and worked in various staff positions until his retirement in 1990. At the time of his retirement he was the board's executive officer, responsible for directing all of the staff that carried out the organization's mission. During Ladin's tenure, the regional board was in the forefront of efforts to improve water quality and the environment in areas under their jurisdiction in San Diego, Orange and Riverside counties i'n California.

As a staff engineer, Ladin developed many of the regional board's water quality regulatory programs that are still being carried out. He worked on one of the regional board's earliest success stories, the restoration of San Diego Bay, by spearheading efforts to eliminate discharges of municipal a,nd industrial wastes. He later directed staff efforts to identify the impacts and sources of legacy pollutants in the Bay and implement remediation projects. While executive officer he convinced the regional board to mandate innovative and controversialcontaniinated sediment removal projects that were, at that time, unique in California. To his co-workers Ladin was a boss who maintained high standards, developed and brought out the best in his staff members and gave them his complete support. He was also a source of an endless repertoire of stories and jokes, freely provided to any audience at any time and any place. Because of his knowledge of water quality and his ability to charm his audience with stories and jokes he was in heavy demand as a public speaker.

In addition to his work with the regional board, Ladin was active in the California Water Pollution Control Association (now California Water Environment Association), serving as president of the local San Diego County section and the statewide organization. After retiring from the state in 1990, Ladin opened his own consulting business, but closed it after five years to spend more time with family. In December of 2004, Ladin and Carol sold their home in San Diego and moved back to their hometown of Walla Walla. Theylived in College Place for a year while building a new home. They moved into their new home in March of 2006, and spent their time putting in landscaping and a garden. .

Ladin is preceded in death by his older brother, Larry. He is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughter, Peggy Jo and son-in-law Jim Muratsuchi of Kaneohe, Hawaii; two grandsons; brother, Bill Delaney of Camino, Calif.; sister, Grace Schipporeit of Salem, Ore.; and brother, John Delaney of Walla Walla.

A memorial service will be on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Herrin~ Groseclose Funeral Home in Walla Walla. A private family internment will occur at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Ladin's name to Walla Walla Community Hospice through the Herring Funeral Home.

I received this message from Darlene Burke about Gail Liljegren. I was not able to
find an obituary on the net. I will forward it on if I am able to find it.
Jim Irwin

Perhaps you have already been notified of this death notice. If not,
it is sad for me to forward this news. Because I had not heard
anything from Gail since around August 1, (my husband and I have been
traveling a lot this summer and early fall) I sent an e-mail to her
yesterday and received no reply. Gail has always been very quick to
respond to all correspondence, so we feared there was a problem.

My husband did an on line search of deaths in New Jersey, and found
this information:

Gail Liljegren of Oakland NJ Died August 08 2008 Born February 24 1938.
Cremation was Private.

She was a dear friend, and I will deeply miss her, as I am sure many
of our classmates will.

My love and best wishes to all of you precious people. Darlene (Boynton) Burke
