Swansea Mariners by Bryan Richards --- period 1891-1894, a database of ratings such as un-certificated officers, bosun, able seaman, ordinary seaman, boy, cook, steward, etc in Glamorgan Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Cardiganshire, or from around the world.
Almost 9,000 detailed entries (3/2004) growing by a few hundred each week, now started the 1861-1865 period. Will also shortly add a list of pressed men for abt 1650 for South Wales and West of England.

 1842 Royal Commission Reports on the Employment of Children and Young Persons in Wales. Four reports cover South Wales (2 reports), North Wales and the Forest of Dean. For Glamorgan includes:
Merthyr Districts, Dowlais, Penydarran and the Aberdare Iron works near Merthyr Tydvil, Cwmavon Iron, Tin and Copper works and the Collieries and the Oakwood Collieries, near Port Talbot. The Iron Works in Bridgend, Neath and Swansea, The Copper Works at Swansea and Llanelly, and the Collieries in the Western part of Glamorgan and Carmarthenshire, and on the State, Condition and Treatment of such Children and Young Persons.

It lists the name, age and place of employment of every individual interviewed by the commissioners in their compiling of the report - some hundreds of names.

It covers the Militia's marches in 1798 - 1800, when they marched to Portsmouth (by a somewhat circuitous route) to board the ships that were to take them to Ireland. It lists all ships of war lost in action and requisitioned merchant ships.

British merchant ships of 500 tons gross and over, foreign ships over 1000 tons lost by ordinary marine risks with the loss of five lives or more.Ships over 10000 tons and over with or without loss of life.

British and foreign merchant ships of 500 and 1000 tons lost by enemy action wether loss of life was reported or not.

The author does say that the work is limited and many ships are missing.
