William E. O'Connor (1930 - 2012) Obituary
BURLINGTON - William E. O'Connor, 82 of Burlington, and Daytona Beach Shores, Florida died at home Sept. 17,{2012} surrounded by his loving family. Born in Torrington on Aug. 28, 1930, Bill was the son of Perry and Jennie (Burke) O'Connor.
He graduated from Torrington High School in 1948. Bill joined the Air Force in 1950 serving his country in Korea during the Korean War. He returned stateside and met his wife of 59 years, Jacqueline (Walker) O'Connor while stationed in Knoxville Tennessee.
He was employed by Northeast Utilities and was a member of Torrington Elks Lodge #372. An avid golfer with a great sense of humor, Bill enjoyed golfing with his nephews and closest friends.
In addition to his wife Jacqueline, Bill is survived by his daughter, Deborah Sage Skinner and her partner Geoff Webster of Terryville; his granddaughter Sarah Sage and husband Steven Guay and their children Gabriel and Merrick; his granddaughter Jennie Sage and her husband Jamie Monterio and their children Jaycee and Jagger; his "honorary" granddaughter Nicole Cicerchia. He also leaves his nieces and nephews; Bob and Jim Downs, Jim, Dick, Jay, and Tom O'Connor, Paula Hackett, Wayne Bogue, Patricia McLane, Laurie Bogue and Jennifer Bonn as well as 59 great-nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses; Marion (Ed) Downs, James (Olga) O'Connor, Eileen (Frank) Bogue and John (Betty) O'Connor and his niece Marion Downs Garafalo.

Funeral Services will be held Friday Sept. 21 10 a.m. from Phalen Funeral Home, 285 Migeon Ave., Torrington to Saint Francis Church, 160 Main St., Torrington for a Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

TORRINGTON - Betty J. O'Connor, 87, of McKinley Street, died Friday, February 24, 2012, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. O'Connor, Sr. Mrs. O'Connor was born in Torrington on April 16, 1924, daughter of the late Howard J., Sr. and Anita E. (Bolcher) Friday and was a lifelong Torrington resident. She was a retired Bank Teller with Brooks Bank and Torrington Savings Bank, retiring in 1986 with over 20 years of service. Mrs. O'Connor was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and was a member of the Torrington Women's Club and the Torrington Mother's Club. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and playing cards. Survivors include two sons; John J. O'Connor, Jr. and his wife, Diane and Tom E. O'Connor and his wife, Cathie, a daughter; Paula J. Hackett and her husband, William, all of Torrington, four brothers; Howard J. Friday, Jr. of Bristol, Donald Friday of Lake George, NY, Richard Friday and Keith Friday both of Torrington, two sisters; Eunice Killian and Alice Canfield, both of Torrington, six grandchildren; John J. O'Connor, III, Kelly Pergola, Erin Hackett, Colleen Leifert, Ashlee O'Connor and Chelsea O'Connor, seven great-grandchildren; John J. O'Connor, IV, Mary O'Connor, Alyssa O'Connor, John Pergola, Sophia Pergola, Alexis Leifert and Madysen O'Connor and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. O'Connor was predeceased by a brother, James Friday. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 9:30 a.m.from The Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect Street, Torrington, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main Street, Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Monday, Feb. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.
