Note*: BIOGRAPHY: Sarah Belle Phegley was born in Missouri, coming west in 1888. She married John Wesley Cook and had three children: Ruth, Eva andForrest. 'Nano' as she was called by her grandchildren, used to take thefamily on trips down the Oregon Coast, where John would show some of theearliest moving pictures to the little towns along the way. Belle andher children would make candy to sell at these early movie showings. Inbetween these excursions, she opened a millinery shop in Canby, Oregon,which was close by Woodburn, where Celia Phegley (her mother) lived withtwo unmarried brothers, Sam and Fred. 'Nano' had another sister Ida, and a brother, Grant, who married MaryFaulkes. Belle divorced John Cook and much later married CharlesChristenson, a jeweler. The children called him 'Dado'. Note*: TOM & EVERETT'S PLANE ACCIDENT On the 12th of August, 1991, Tom and Everett Phelps lost their lives ina airplane accident in south central Nebraska. They were returning inTom’s Piper Comanche PA- 250 to Arkansas from Spearfish, South Dakotaafter having made repairs to Tom’s father-in-laws home when the accidentoccurred. It is theorized that Tom was the inadvertent victim of a highaltitude disorder known as hypoxia (lack of oxygen). Its symptomologycauses unconscious impairment of judgement and feelings of euphoria. Theweather over southern Nebraska began to deteriorate rapidly, reducingvisibility and causing Tom to fly in solid cloud cover. When he attemptedto descend, the affect of hypoxia, coupled with an apparent highgravitational force, caused Tom to loose consciousness and ultimatelycontrol of the aircraft. The airplane came to rest in a corn field eastof Red Cloud, Nebraska. One wing from the aircraft was found a mile and ahalf from the crash site. The above account was received from Edward Hiram Mahoney in August 1992.
