COULD THESE BE THE PARENTS (OR GRAND PARENTS) OF JAMES DALRYMPLE, THE PROGENITOR OF THE HUNTERDON CO. NJ FAMILY & GEORGE DALRYMPLE, THE PROGENITOR OF THE LAURENS SC FAMILY & POSSIBLY THOMAS DALRYMPLE IN CHESTER CO. PA? DID JAMES AND MARY DALRYMPLE HAVE ANY CHILDREN? JAMES DALRYMPLE was transported with 22 other passengers from Bristol, England by William JONES, mariner, to Maryland (probably Talbot Co. area) in 1672. The names of servants aboard the "Joseph" 1673: Gregory PASE, Elizabeth HUNGERFORD, Mary HUNGERFORD, Sarah FLOWER, Jervis BESSING, Ambrose WARTLY, James MACKLANAN, Forlorn MOTTEE, Edward LOYD, Patrick HANKIN, Hugh MEBRIN, Patrick BOGNES, Margaret DARE, Joseph NICHOLSON, Henry NEWLAND, Thomas NICHOLSON, Kadee MEDANELL, Patrick MEDANELL, James MAXWELL, Jane NELSON, Mary EWEN, Thomas PETTYMAN, Robert COOPER, Christian ROY, Bryan CONLANE, Phillip CONLANE, John GRIFFING, Ann MACKOY, John HERVARD, Mary TAYLOR. The names of the following persons were transported in Anno 1672. Elinor SHARPE, Jane HEMING, John SKOTT, Patrick MACKWAY, Mary CARWELL, John CHRISTY, Hester WILLIAMS, Robert WILLIAMS, Richard SMITH, David JONES, John POPE, Margaret KENADY, Ann SHULEVAN, John SHULEVAN, John JONES, Elizaabeth BLARE, Edmund THOMSON, Geoge WATTS, John STEELE, Elizabeth FORD, John FORD, Cicily MORGAN, JAMES DERIMPLE. The persons before
mentioned being in number fifty-five were brought into Maryland by Mr. William Jones of
Bristol, Marriner and the rights for their transportation due to the saids Jones proved
before me this 25 November 1673. Following 7 years of service in the Province of Maryland, James DALRYMPLE claimed and received on 26 November 1680 50 acres of land due him; on the same date he assigned rights and title to Thomas SMITH, also of Talbot Co., who claimed his own 50 acres for transporting himself into the Province to legally inhabit. William JONES received 2750 acres of land for transporting a total of 55 persons to Maryland to inhabit, suggesting James DALRYMPLE and others were not political or civil prisoners. Patents WC 2 f.306 Talbot County MD
Hall of Records THOMAS SMITH of Talbot county demands his rights to 50 acres of land for transporting himself into this Province to inhabit. 26 November 1680 On 30 November 1680 James DALRYMPLE was a juror in St. Marys County, MD, but not necessarily a resident there as the Provincial Court moved from area to area to hold sessions. The next record found was his and wife Marys (widow of John CLEMENTS and executrix of his Will) legal action against merchants in which James DALRYMPLE had 500 bushels of salt attached by Talbot Co. sheriff to satisfy his claim on 11 May 1680. Between 1680 and 1683 there are several court records in which James and Mary DALRYMPLE apparently were settling the accounts of John CLEMENTS. At the time of John Clement's death, he had a "very good Considerable personal Estate" as by appraisment and inventory... amounting to the "sume of one hundred Eighty five thousand and fifteen pounds of tobacco and two hundred and seventy five pounds sterling." The earliest evidence puts John CLEMENTS in Maryland around 1668, which may mean that John and Mary brought some children with them from England. John CLEMENTS owned land at Tred Avon (also spelled Third Haven, Thread Haven, Trade Haven) on the Miles River. John CLEMENTS died between 5 October 1675, date of Will, and 3 August 1676 when it was probated. To his parents in England, if still alive, he provided 20 pounds sterling and a like sum to his brother NATHAN there. Half of the remainder of his estate to wife for life, to be divided equally between children after her death. The other half to be divided among children as they came of age. Mary CLEMENTS, the widow, and William FORD were executors, although John CLEMENTS named others. William FORD died before 1679 when Mary CLEMENTS asked the Mens Quaker Meeting for advice and assistance related to her "outward estate" suggesting Mary had some connection to the Quakers. One of three witnesses to John CLEMENTs Will was John GORDON, one of Talbots Episcopalian ministers; son John CLEMENTS was baptized in Episcopalian Church. In the 1678 a tax was levied on all inhabitants of Maryland, which was to be paid in tobacco. In Talbot Co. "MARY CLEMENTS" was accessed for two properties, one for 68 lbs of tobacco, the other for 600 lbs of tobacco. The later accessment was substantial compared to the majority of the other inhabitant's taxes in Talbot Co. At the time of this tax list, Mary is listed as "Clements", which would indicate she had not yet married James DALRYMPLE. CLEMENTS, John, The Elder, d. by 1676; his widow, Mary INCHBUDD (INCHBORD or INCHBARD), m. 2nd James DERUMPLE. (Maryland Marriage References, Maryland State Archives ARMD 38: 130,131) WAS MARY'S MAIDEN NAME INCHBORD - OR HAS THIS RECORD BEEN CONFUSED WITH JOHN, THE ELDER AND WIFE MARY CLEMENTS' DAUGHTER NAMED MARY CLEMENTS WHO MARRIED WILLIAM INCHBORD? DERUMPLE, James, m. after 1676 and by 1678, Mary (INCHBUDD) widow and extx of John CLEMENTS the elder of TA Co. (ARMD 38: 130-131; 68; 49; 69: 234) James DALRYMPLE and Mary INCHBORD, the widow of John CLEMENTS, were married sometime between 1675 and 1680 and had some minor CLEMENT children to rear. The six children were: THOMAS CLEMENTS b. ca 1664 d. 1697, Talbot Co., MD. Married by 1689 Rebecca PRICE daughter of John PRICE.. Rebecca was born 7 January 1669. Children, surname CLEMENTS: Mary b. 31 December 1689; Rebecca b. 16 November 1692; Lambert born 29 October 1695, St. Peters Parish Register, Kent Co. Rebecca married (2) Henry FRITH; 5 daughters (3) Thomas SANDERS (SAUNDERS) JANE CLEMENTS b. ca 1659 d. ca 1677. Married Thomas MARSH II; his second wife. Child, surname MARSH: Sarah b. 24 December 1677. On his Will 12 August 1679 he refers to certain property belonging to wife Jane received from her father John CLEMENTS (of Kent Co., a recent immigrant from England.) The MARSH family were Quakers. LAMBERT CLEMENTS d. 1692 Talbot Co. Married Elizabeth. She married 2nd: Henry BAILEY. Son Henry BAILEY baptized 20 July 1701 St. Peters Parish Register. ANNE CLEMENTS d. by 1711; unmarried. MARY CLEMENTS b. ca 1665 d. by 1711. Married ca 1683 William INCHBORD. Children, surname INCHBORD: Jane b. 15 January 1684; Mary born 25 January 1686, St. Peters Register. JOHN CLEMENTS b. 9 June 1673 baptized 9 June 1702 St. Peters Parish Register, d. ? 1721 Queen Anne Co. MD. Married Elizabeth, had at least one son John CLEMENTS. In 1711 there is an Act of MD Assembly which states that John CLEMENTS widow Mary and James "DERUMPLE", her husband, had both died without property and without accounting for John CLEMENTS estate although Mary had been the co-executor of it. In these proceedings Mary's children claimed she had "intermarried with a Certain James Derumple spent imbezilled and Confounded the said Personall Estate of the Orphans" . It is stated that William FORD, co-executor, had also died without an accounting and because he had put up bond for proper administration the Act designated three commissions to take some of FORDs land from his executor to deed to the heirs of John CLEMENTS who were still living. The heirs were identified as son John, also a legatee of his sister Ann; the children of Thomas CLEMENTS and children of Mary (CLEMENTS) INCHBORD. Apparently Mary CLEMENTS DALRYMPLE was still living in 1697 when son Thomas prepared his Will and gave her lifetime use of his real estate. She was dead by 1709 when petition to Assembly was filed, which resulted in the Act of 1711.
