Early Resident Dies in S.L.; Aided Building

Edward F. Guest, 90, 3517 S. West Temple, who as a construction foreman worked on many of Salt Lake City's larger buildings including the LDS hospital, died in a Salt Lake hospital Tuesday [12 Jul 1949] at 6:10 p.m. of causes incident to age.

For many years Mr. Guest was a foreman for the John Holt Construction Co. He later worked on wagon trains hauling coal from Coalville to Salt Lake valley over what was then a hazardous mountain pass. He also worked 17 years for Pyke Manufacturing Co., 154 W. 2nd South.

Born Nov. 9, 1858, in Mill Creek, Salt Lake City, Mr. Guest was a son of Edward F. M. and Jane Walton Guest. As a youth he hunted bear in Mill Creek canyon and often aided in felling timber for the winter fuel supply.

Mr. Guest married Rebecca Butterworth in Salt Lake City Dec. 14, 1881. The couple later was sealed in the LDS temple. Mrs. Guest died in 1933 [1935].

Surviving are five sons and daughters: Edward M. Guest, Twin Falls, Ida.; Mrs. Dessie Rebecca Peck, Holladay; Mrs. Verna Cowley, with whom he resided, and William J. and J. Earl Guest, also of Salt Lake City; 21 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
