Brief Biography of Jane Rowley Colley


Born on 15 May 1801 in Whitbourne, Herefordshire, England, Jane was christened 24 May 1801 "Jane Rowley" at the Whitbourne parish church. Her father is not named in the parish register; her mother's name is given as Emma Rowley.

Jane marries "Thomas Walton" in the Whitbourne parish church by banns on 20 May 1819.

Inherits farm, "The Ford," from her brother Samuel Colley.

Thomas and Jane are parents of 10 children: Ann (Townsend), Thomas, Hannah, Harriet, James, Joseph, George, John, Emma, and Jane (Guest). Errors in reading handwriting of parish register have attributed a son "Cory" to this couple; actually this is a misreading of "Gorge," the entry for their son George.

Jane's death occured on 5 Feb 1889 in Sugar House and is buried in Salt Lake City Cemetery.
