5. Joseph2 James the Elder (Thomas1) was born in 1712 at Stafford Co., VA. He married Mary Field, daughter of Henry (Capt) Field and Esther James, in 1737. He died circa 1782 at Culpeper, VA.
Most of family believed moved to Kentucky after 1785. He lived between 1737 and 1779 at Culpeper large landowner. Will on 31 Dec 1778.

(1850 called Remington, then Bowenville). Property on 26 Aug 1839 Sold to Isham Keith 20,600 acres in Lewis Co., KY, land belonging to wife, inherited from her father. On 25 Sep 1850 Slave Schedule, Fauquier, 11 slaves. In 1860 not mentioned in wife's estate 1860.
