The will of John Wright dated on June 1, 1785, and probated on February 27, 1792, at Fauquier County, Virginia, W.B. 2/219

. . . .I give and desire and bequeath to my son James Wright all of that my land lying on the east side of the run, being part of the tract of land whereon I now live, in the County of Fauquier to him his Heirs & assigns forever. . . .

Item I give to my grand daughter Betsey Wright daughter to my son James Wright one negro named Jinny to her, her Heirs and assigns forever. . . .
Item I give likewise to my two daughters Mary Wright & Rosamond Wright the plantation whereon I now live and all the land I hold lying on the west side of the said run above mentioned to them & their Heirs lawfully begotten of their bodys forever to be divided between the two as they can agree, and in case they die without such Heir. It is my Will and desire that the said land shall go to my son James Wright to him his Heirs & assigns for ever.

Will of Rosamond Wright
In the name of God ……………..County of Fauquier in the Commonwealth of Virginia…….to mind the uncertainty of this life and being at this time of a sound mind…………be God for this same do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say….as to what worldly goods it hath pleased God to blefs me with.

I give devise and bequeath to Betsy James daughter of James Wright one Negro woman named Diana she and her increase to her, her heirs and assigns forever.

Item I give to Aldridge James son of Betsy James one Negro boy named Olly and one woman named Milly and her children named Lewis, Mateloa, Silva, Hanner they and their increase to him his heirs and assigned forever.

Item I give to Margaret James daughter of Betsy James one Negro girl named Lucina she and her increase to her and her heirs assigned forever.

Item I leave to my Brother and sister James and Mary Wright one Negro man named Robert and woman named Lidda and as they have been good servants and now getting old my wish is they may always be treated well and have a comfortable maintenance when they are not able to labour.

The rest of my property I leave to the use of my Brother and Sister James and Mary Wright except one choice bed and furniture I likewise give to Aldridge James and lastly I hereby make and ordain constitute and appoint James Wright and Aldridge James Executors of this my Last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this nineteenth day of February one thousand eight hundred four.

Clark X Preston Christopher S Brent

At a court held for Fauquier county on the 23rd day of September, 1811. This last will and Testament of Rosamond Wright deceased was proved by the oaths of Clark Preston and Christopher N. Brent witnesfes ….and ….to be recorded and on the motion of Aldridge James one of the Executors therein named who made oath and together with James Wright his security entered into and acknowledged bond in the penalty of two thousand pounds….. as the law directs certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.


Will of Elizabeth James (Betsy Wright)
I Elizabeth James this 3rd day of January One thousand eight hundred and twenty eight do make this my last will and testament.
In the first I give to my daughter Mary Smith one bed and furniture.
Item I give to my son David James one bed and furniture.
Item I give to Emily Ash one bed and furniture.
Item I give to my daughter Margaret Kelley's children my Negroes Joshua, Sedwick, James, Judah and her children, also the tract of land that belonged to my grandfather upon which I live but it is my will and testament that my son Aldridge James retain possession of the said tract of land for five years after my death free of rent or charge enjoining on him to use it as he would his own.
Item I give to my granddaughter Delia James my Negro girl Winney.
Item I give to my son Aldridge James all my remaining estate both real and personal, and constitute him my executor of this my last will and testament.
It is my will that the foregoing property given to my daughter Margaret's children be entirely under the control and management of their father.
In testimony of which I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day and date above mentioned.

At the court held for Fauquier County on the 27th day of October, 1834. This last will and testament of Elizabeth James was proved by the oaths of Gorg W. Sinclair, M. A. Chilton and Enos Hord subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
