footnotes:

  1. The family Bible was the main source for names and certified copies of marriage certificates for Plymouth and Nottingham have been obtained.
  2. Other names are attested by oral family history.
  3. The skill of Dieter Retz is acknowledged in locating further details from the Parish Records for Carlton le Moorland, Leadenham, Fulbeck and Lincoln.
  4. The parish church of Leadenham is St Swithin's (also called St Swithun's) and there is also a St Swithin's in Lincoln. Thomas Watson and Mary Wilson were married in Lincoln in 1816 and lived there for the baptism of their children including William John in 1834. Many new houses were built, and the population of Lincoln more than doubled between 1801 and 1851. There would have been plenty of work for joiners.
