James Alexander was born between 1690 and 1695 at Cecil Co, Maryland; James' mother was probably Abigail McKnitt.¹ He was the son of Joseph Alexander and Abigail McKnitt. James Alexander married Margaret McKnitt, daughter of John McKnitt and Jane Wallace, circa 1714.^1,2 James Alexander married Abigail (?).¹ James Alexander died before 15 July 1779 at Cecil Co, Maryland.¹
He left a will on 17 June 1772; Nine of his children were still living. Seven of thhose nine moved to Mecklenburg Co, North Carolina, where James owned land. He willed this land in Long Creek, Hopewell section, to son Ezekiel.¹
